That storm is also warned for "lime-sized" hail.

The big difference in us being dry and you all out west is that they've doing prescribed burns through the dry spell here. Can't do that everywhere.

No, they’ve been severely restricted and haven’t gotten in anywhere close to the number they intended to. I hear “fire season started early this year” a lot.

Y'all are probably going to see an early heat wave in the next couple weeks, too. The worst may be west of you.

Anymore good news?

We had a good run last year weather wise, I knew it wasn’t going to last.

This rain is pushing through in time to catch just a glimpse of the sunset.

I just realized that Spann is simulcasting the Alabama Weather Network feed to ABC 33/40. There is no network logo or branding on the on-air broadcast coverage. That shows the pull he has over network ownership. Interesting.

Looking to be a strong El Nino heading into peak season, which usually means less overall activity. ENSO neutral for early season, though.

We should start getting everyone's favorite soon......pre-season forecasts.

He had to have told them he would walk if they didn't partner with the Alabama Weather Network. He is in his 70s and could retire whenever and do his own thing. I'm sure the network didn't want to lose the eyeballs if he left and started his own thing online. I also figure that he has enough pull to not have any serious non-compete clause in his contract.

There aren't many broadcast mets with that kind of weight to throw around.

Spann was a big part of the establishment of ABC 33/40. He’s one of the original crew members. He and some prominent news and sports anchors left other Birmingham stations to join 33/40 when it was created in 1996. I think he’s the only original on-air personality left from 1996.

Just got the first Moderate upgrade of the season across northern IL/IN. It is a tornado driven upgrade.

The hail risk out in central/west TX could be significant today.
