Some nice pics of one of the multiple tornadoes spawned by that incredible storm in Oklahoma. I’m not sure, but I would guess this was the one near Cole, OK, southwest of Norman.

Boy Norman got lucky with that detour the storms took south.

You run a straight line on the damage paths and the storm damage looks completely different.

The whole day was just strange. To start we’ve been in drought but you could take a knife from SW to NE Oklahoma and the SE side of that line is fine but the NW side of that line is very dry.

So they had like 20% chances in the morning but we’ve had so many 50% chance or higher just disappear so everyone figured at 20% there was no risk.

Then it came and was massive hail. Some had 4 unique cells that dropped hail so not just 1 hail event at a location. That was strange.

Then the tornados, again the cap has been impossible to break this year so even with chasers and wall to wall coverage, most didn’t think the cap would break even while chasing the storms.

Then they came but had very different patterns than normal. A few towns had tornado to west yet at last mile it went south then back north around. Or just lifted and reformed just north of town.

So many strange occurances yesterday.

NWS Norman

@NWSNorman
Survey crew in McClain County (near Cole) just uploaded this picture back to the office. Four people were in this house when the tornado hit. All survived by sheltering under a mattress in their mud room.

Not to take away from discussion about yesterday but the cap in DFW has eroded and storms are firing off the Cold Front boundary which is easily visible on radar.

Was kinda hoping it would slip past me but its only about ~20mi away

HRRR showed the northerly pop ups while still missing a majority of DFW and reforming into a line just SE of DFW later on.

I guess we will see how well it did today.

No chaser just live in OKC. I think it would be cool but the problem we’re seeing more and more here is rookie chasers combined with too many chasers. With cell phones and live video feeds anyone can be a chaser.

If you watched Reed Timmer he is an expert. During his chase he had to back up “fast”. He can do that. But what we get now are people not familiar with roads and get lost when needing to fond an “out” during a chase. Plus too many cars in one area making it hard for seasoned chasers to navigate.

Thats why I won’t do it, have respect for the pro’s who do. I’d love to hook up on a ridealong with a pro though, on my bucket list. Weather fascinates me.

I don’t meet people from online (my longstanding rule no offense meant)

So do you collect war stuff? What kinds if so. I spent some time in the Navy so can relate.
