Louisiana State Police is now on the scene and setting up a command post.

Update:

Parents say they are frustrated because they cannot get to their children while the high school is on lockdown, across Interstate 20.

Madison Parish High School is several hundred feet from the jail.

The detention center is operated by LaSalle Southwest Corrections.

So far, no one has been able to provide us with IDs or photos of the inmates who escaped.

Richland Parish Sheriff's Office and Louisiana State Police are assisting.

----

Authorities are searching for seven escaped inmates in Madison Parish. If you know where to find them contact the Madison Parish Sheriffs Dept at 318-574-1833 or call 911.

Madison Parish High School is on lockdown. Our reporter says this is a security lockdown with inmates having escaped nearby and has nothing to do with a specific threat toward the school.

This is who is still at large

Well that's kind of the definition of "lockdown".

I wonder how many inmates aren’t allowed to be within that perimeter of a school.

Well at least it seems like they're on top of it.

I am not an expert, but don't escapees usually run farther than 2-300 feet from the jail? I thought they tried to get as far as possible.

I think the fear is that they will take hostages or something.

Yeah, they definitely didn't go to the school. That's the one place with worse food than the prison.

Update: 1 escaped Madison Parish inmate caught, 6 on the loose

Sheriff Cox isn't gonna play games with them bad baws. That there pokey has 3 hots n a cot plus outdoor jobs that don't all include field labor. Its actually a dumb idea on to escape on prisoners part but there lies the problem they are prisoners

They could take hostages anywhere, including inside the jail. These criminals have beat feet. They are going to their mama's, or old girlfriends house. The smarter ones will go to Aunt Knuck-Knuck's house outside of Bawcomville.

In Louisiana there are more prisons than schools. It’s inevitable.

Madison Parish is overdeveloped so land out there is at a premium. That's probably the only place in the parish they could find to actually put the thing, the rest occupied by crap tons of neighborhoods/business/airports/etc.

This must be a joke, or you've never been there. Tallulah is a shite hole - there are plenty of places north/ south / east / west to put prisons

The federal government required the school to built in a central location for the school board to get out of a 1970s segregation agreement. It was also cost effective to build at current location as they had to close 2-3 other local schools and bus in the kiddos.

overdeveloped

You are underdeveloped if you think Tallulah is over developed. I took a kid home one time from football practice and he lived in a bus. Like a hunting camp bus. He cried when I took him to sonic. (To eat, not fight.) Very poor, mostly farmland and extreme poverty.
