Settling a bet... would you rather have a bat or baseball be hit/throw your way?

Assume you're sitting behind the dugout of the home or visiting teams dugout...

Bat

Maybe it would fly over my head after it was thrown.

Who is throwing, because if it's a professional. I will take the bat over the 97 MPH fastball.

Bat would probably do less damage if it connected.

Does the bat just come loose? Or are we talking about someone intentionally throwing objects at you?

Baseball.

Scruffy has been hit by baseballs. They hurt, but they don't hurt that bad.

Assuming equal velocity the force of the baseball would be more concentrated at impact. The bat may also glance off easier.

A bat is harder than a baseball

Is the bat broken or still intact?

Broken bat... Ball.

Intact bat... Bat.

Used to do a lot Rangers games during my Texas exile - when a bat comes out of a pro's hand it is rotating pretty quickly - have seen two village idiots try to snag it instead of ducking - not a good ending in either one - sitting behind the plate, you have a net, but down the base line, it can be brutal - you can catch the ball, not the bat
