It’s the fact that the world is objectively better when any man chooses not to be a lazy, self-interested dipshit and instead chooses to adopt some responsibility and be something better. Becoming a good father is the most common way to do that.

What if they choose to adopt some responsibility by having a kid, then they die, then that kid suffers from the trauma and turns into an abuser. is the world objectively better?

or if they just straight up suck at being a father.

saying the world is objectively better because someone chooses in one moment that they are gonna become a father and try to be a good one is very short-sighted.

I'm sure there are a lot of shitty fathers out there that at one point thought they were gonna do the world some good by becoming a good father

Or perhaps it's a responsible person realizing kids are not for him, and taking steps not to be a shitty parent.

It’s not for him because, as he said, he simply wants to lay around butt naked and smoke weed.

That’s not some innate inability to be a father. That’s a choice. And it’s a poor one.

Yes because there’s an epidemic of people dying the instant they become parents.

What are we even taking about here

Then be a better one. This isn’t pro-level golf where maybe you’re good and maybe you’re not. It’s a fricking choice that you make everyday. Deciding to not prioritize laying around smoking weed everyday would be a step in the right direction.

Let’s say 60% of adult males have decided to commit themselves to be the best fathers they can be, even by their own definition.

In your opinion, is the world a better or worse place if all of those males had instead chosen not to be fathers so they’d have time to lay on the bed and smoke weed everyday?

If all the fathers that were debating whether they wanted to have kids or lay in bed and get high all day decided not to have kids, the world would be a better place.

Well, that’s not what I asked.

What’s better, a world full of men who choose to adopt fatherhood as a purpose, calling and identity, or a world full of men who’s most important thing is to get high?

Who cares? It’s his decision and he’s under no obligation to have kids. I dunno why there’s this pressure, especially in the south, for people to “fulfill their duty of having kids by age ___”. It’s dumb. We don’t need them for farm work anymore. All my friends from the south have kids. Seth Rogan obviously loves his life the way it is, and doesn’t want to give that up. I know a lot more people I grew up with that had kids and shouldn’t have, than the other way around.

And when I go home and see my newborn nephew screaming, crying, puking, burping, farting, and seeing my sister having to change his diaper or take him out of restaurants because he’s crying, or whenever I’m on planes, I’m reminded just how smart it was for me to never have a kid. I do not envy any of my friends who have kids, and I can’t remember ever thinking, “man, maybe I should have had a kid.” There are a lot of us.

So anyone who reads what I just wrote would certainly agree that I’m the type of guy who shouldn’t be having kids, and considering Seth would rather smoke weed and watch movies, he’s probably the type of guy who shouldn’t be, either.

OK you can live in your ideological world where every man that has a kid is gonna make being a great father his sole purpose in life. I'll live in the real world where a lot of them arent.

I wouldn't want someone to adopt a dog if their heart wasn't 100% in it, much less father a child.

Why? Your statement makes it sound like they have an obligation to have children that they are avoiding.

There's no right or wrong decision to not have kids.

People have an obligation to do something with the gift of life, and I don't think making a couple of cute throwaway movies and donating to Planned Parenthood cuts it.

I know there are people who really don’t want kids, but I really don’t get it. I only have one kid, and I have often questioned why we didn’t have more before we aged out. I’ve been around families with with 4 or 5 kids whose parents are also from large families, and it seems like such a wonderful thing. Many of these people will regret these decisions when they are in their 70’s and 80’s.

Don't see any problem with it. If you don't want kids, don't have them. Don't see a need to judge your personal reasons on your personal decisions.
