Seriously how is it going to play out with the US national debt?

There is never going to be the political will to cut spending, and the current debt/ defecit is obviously unsustainable.
How the hell is this going to play out? Are they just going to tax the hell out of everybody eventually? Are we going to say "screw you" and go to war with China for some reason over it?
tDecline of the US is sincere.

We don't have to pay it back, just keep the deficit smaller, which i think we should do.
1) Who is gonna make us pay it back and what could they possibly threaten us with
2) The interest rates we get are laughably small.

I agree. It was time 20 years ago, but it's never going to happen

China will enslave us. Eventually they will develop a liberal agenda and free us from slavery. Then we will demand reparations

The US is too big to fail. As long as we keep making payments it will be fine.

People always say this, but nothing ever happens. So is it really unsustainable if there are no consequences?

We could completely get rid of the military and still have a deficit. Entitlement reform is the avenue that needs to be taken to fix the debt crisis.

When it becomes large enough where all of our tax revenue goes to pay the interest on the debt then yes. China and Japan will stop buying our bonds or we'll have to offer higher rates of return which compounds the issue.

Kind of interesting. I heard an economist on the radio yesterday talk about the deficit and the national debt. She said you need to quit thinking about it in terms of a deficit like your house might have because it's not the same thing. Our debt is made up of Treasury bonds by and large, and these are assets that many Americans hold and that's important. Also if China wants to get too picky about things the reason we have a such a huge deficit is that we buy so much crap from them. If they get pushy about it what are they going to do quit sustaining their economy by selling us stuff? Also keep in perspective we are at approaching 20 trillion dollars, Japan is close to 50 times worse than that. They are approaching a quadrillion in national debt.

Majority of the spending is going towards entitlements though. Gotta look at cutting back SS, Medicare, Food and agriculture subsidies, food stamps, etc...

Eventually we will get involved in a massive war that we won't be able to afford to keep up with. Our enemy will advance and we won't. Then....
