Why is a noose considered such an offensive image now days? Slaves weren't the first or last people to be killed in this manner. I'm honestly just curious

Likely a movie where they hung black slaves. Roots maybe?
As a kid I used to always associate hanging with cowboys because of westerns. And the pace pecante sauce cowboys. Lol

Same reason the swastika is. The swastika was originally a Buddhist and Hindu symbol adopted by the Germans during world war 2. Even though it had peaceful beginnings it is now a symbol of hate.
Same can be said about the noose which was used for lynching and hate at the early days of the freed slaves.
Works the opposite way too. Crucifixion was used to torture thousands of people now it seen as a symbol of the largest religion in the world.

Slaves were expensive as shite, that would be like hanging your car.
I think it's more about the post reconstruction South and intimidating blacks through state supported intimidation and colonialism.

It's a very useful knot.

There's five or six Pirates of the Caribbean movies with pirates hanging in just about every one if I remember correctly. Never mind, these days pirates are off the coast of Af#Ic@. Still offensive. Carry on.

My school was predominantly white. The closest we had to a minority was a half black, half white guy.
When I was in high school (98 or 99) a black family moved there. They didn't last long due to all the threats they received and ended up moving away just a few months later. Someone even hung a noose in the kid's basketball locker.

Because black people are looking for any way to be offended because it usually ends with their getting free stuff.

Yeah but the noose is stretching it. Hell, it is still a completely legal way of exacting the death penalty in lots of States.

It shouldn't be offensive.
