How do you handle this situation if it's coming from someone you love and live with?

I've never had any alcoholics in my family.
I'm a social drinker who can take it or leave it. I like beer and that's it.

I've seen a growing problem at my house and I have no clue how to help fix it.
It's getting worse and it's going to cause some bad times and damage in the near future.
Kids
Family
Career
Every time i bring it up it's a huge fight.

I'm stuck on this one and I pride myself with usually having most the answers. Not this time.

You came to the right place.

Tell your dad you’re moving out if he continues drinking.

Your smartphone came with a camera?

Use it to record substandard behavior.

so your wife is hitting the booze harder and harder?

it's probably because you don't make enough money and your penis is too small.

Be willing either to draw the line and live with the consequences or ride it out til they're ready to give it up. It will be ugly and painful either way

I am a functioning alcoholic. Wasn't alwasys so functional. Do NOT enable. Even if they fight, a lot of times they want to get better and need strength. Be strong.

Honestly, you can’t do anything.

You need to find someone of the same gender as the person in question who is in recovery. That person will approach them and talk to them. It’s called a 12 step call. You can go to an open AA meeting and share about it. People will help you.

Oh. And start going to Al-Anon meetings stat.

(All the above I know from experience as it’s saved my own family)

Who has the drinking problem? The wife?

One thing that may help is get all the alcohol out of the house. Yours included.

Honestly, I don't see much you can do if the root of the problem is not you. I think Roger's post is spot on...

People I’ve known that have had drinkIng problems eventually end up sneaking it and drinking alone.
They lack accountability.
They make excuses.
It’s not if though they are all the life of the party and just live to get hammered.
They are pressing some emotional problems down and taking the easy fix... get shite faced and not deal with it today. F everyone else. F responsibilities and obligations, F being a grown up and working the problem.

Buy a bottle of liquor and drown your sorrows, slow suicide if you think about it.
