This had to have started within the last 10 years or so. Does this seem slightly immature to anyone else?

OP should've clarified, but I'm pretty sure I know what he's referring to...

He's not talking about cap & gown pics with mom, dad, and gramps.

He's talking about people who are hiring professional photographers for full-on photo shoots sometimes weeks/months before actual graduation day.

I agree, friggin waste of money in my opinion...

I graduated high school in 2004 and this was a thing. Mostly done by chicks.

And no, I don't have the pics anymore.

It's been a thing for a while. My sis and I graduated at the same time (HS and College) and my parents had us take graduation pictures because she knew we were both moving away.

didnt know it was that big a deal. I took some about a week before my graduation. I had a friend of mine with a nice camera. I took some cap and gown photos in the stadium, standing in front of the school sign, and sitting on top of our school statue.

It took all of about 45 minutes. I bought my friend chik-fil-a for his trouble. I enjoyed my college experience. So the pics were a fun thing to do to commemorate the end of my collegiate experience.

No way in hell was I paying hundreds of dollars for a professional photagrapher. I didnt care that much.
