Surprised we can't blame this getting voted down on North Louisiana, but North Louisiana doesn't have much representation on the Finance Committee. You guys have a few Baptist voters down there too?

What a bunch of fricking idiots

There isn't any gaming in Donahue's district, he represents one of if not the most affluent district in the state. He's normally a solid pro business anti tax vote but he's wrong on this issue.

What are the chances he campaigns as a "small government conservative?"

If you think this really has anything to do with "morality" then you're either naive or a fool. It didn't pass for the same reason many things don't pass in this state...the right bribes weren't paid (because it's not a certainty it will be legal until the USSC rules) and the legislators haven't fully figured out how to line their pockets from what would be a significant new revenue source.
Once the appropriate representatives take their graft it will pass

Video poker is the lowest of the low of gambling yet they allow that
Its insane
You are right. It is crazy. They have these "casinos" popping up all over. These truck stops that have a bunch of video poker machines in them. One of my cousins use to work at the bar of one for a little while. She said it was sad. There would be people who would come in on the first of the month. They would have whatever was left after they went grocery shopping and blow it all in 20-30mins. People who worked for contractors in the plants.. They would go there on Friday nights and blow through a week of work in an hour.
I don't understand their goal. It's video poker, there is no strategy involved, it's not like you are going to win a big jackpot and the only way to win is to cash out once you get ahead. But when these people hit a big hand, they keep playing. That doesn't make sense.. I know for some people, it's more about being in the action than winning, but the shite isn't designed for people to win. So they might as well just put that shite in a fire.

I'll never understand why people think a computer will "randomly" give them a chance to make tons of money playing video poker

What he said was:
What he meant was:
quote:
his constituents don’t want more gambling
What he meant was:

I didn’t get my check from the riverboat gaming association yet
