I sell stuff on eBay not often but a few things here and there… my advice is this, anyone offering more than what your posting for it, I would sell it, just screen shot or print out all messages and make sure that the transaction goes through eBay and PayPal also for seller protection eBay will always side with the buyer unless you can provide proof, what I usually do is take a picture of the box empty, take a picture of the box with the item in it, take a picture of the item sealed and one with the label on it… and before purchase is complete (I always do a buy it now with offer attached instead of auction ) so when I do have someone ready to buy I ask them if they want any additional pictures or information before purchase is submitted… I had someone try and pull that “I sent them the wrong item” bs and when I submitted all the pictures and chat log (log is through eBay messaging system not personal) eBay sided with me and did not refund the person or if they did they didn’t ask or get the money from me… just make sure to keep details of everything your selling and make sure to go through eBay for the sale don’t try and use outside sources and cut eBay out for no other reason than scam and protection

If it sounds too good to be true, it likely is.

Completely agree. I think I've figured out the scam accounts, but I just don't understand the point. I assume they hope I'll ship the merchandise before getting paid in hopes of a high payout.

I stopped selling on ebay... It might have been 2006 or 2007ish.

Long story short. someone asked me to sell a particular item they were able to get. All I had to do was list the item. I get contacted by some small police department in Missouri asking me if the products were legit. I assured him they were.

He gets the items, runs the serial number, makes some calls, finds out they were not legit. As for as I was concerned I was just helping out someone (who paid me so much for each one sold. I was just doing a favor, I had no idea where the items came from.. SO.. All I can tell you is to never sell hot shite to a police department.

Also when selling through eBay, If the buyer agrees to buy a item from you, before you ship the product or anything eBay will take the money from them.

So say you have a item for $200 buy it now, and you have it set so they can send you a offer and they offer you $300.00 and you click accept… eBay will not give you the information on where to send the item to until they pay for it you will get a email that says “such and such purchased the item waiting on payment” once they pay eBay, eBay will send you a message that says such and such has paid $300.00 for the item print/create shipping label and ship item… at that point you can ship the item because eBay has already gotten the money from the person buying once it’s shipped eBay will start transferring funds into your account…

Personally I don’t care if it is a scam account lol… if they click buy it now or send a offer and pay for it I could care less about what scam they are trying to pull as long as the item shows as “paid” I will ship it… at the same time though, I take multiple pics and have the screen shots of the convo through eBay messaging…

Oh and lastly always create and purchase your shipping label through eBay, for 2 reasons one you get reduced rates for shipping through eBay, and 2 of you get the label from eBay it will automatically fill in the shipping and return address… If they send you a message saying ship here instead just simply message them back and say to change there shipping info on there side so the label automatically fills itself in… again it’s to protect yourself

HouseMom: I don’t have total proof, but based on some of my own eBay selling, I have a theory that there are other professional sellers who are trying to sabotage your auction.

I’ve sold football tickets and other items which other professional sellers were also auctioning. The last thing they want are some amateur taking away their sale with low priced auctions. So what I think they do is create a new account (feedback score of zero) and use it to overbid on your item.

By running up your auction, no other bidders try to buy it. Then, when the auction ends, they don’t pay and fade away like Homer Simpson in the bushes. And all you can do is relist your auction and try again.

I’ve had this happen selling football tickets. If it happens enough times, I could have eaten the costs which would have sucked.
