Car in the rear at fault, self driving or not

I bet if all the cars were in autopilot, there wouldn't have been an accident.

Don’t tailgate and follow at a safe distance. That shite wouldn’t happen baw

Exactly. That pileup is the fault of every car that was tailgating. But let’s blame the first car that stopped

Autonomous cars don’t need to operate perfectly without accidents, they just need to operate more safely than human drivers.

Agreed. Imagine if they stopped advancing air travel after the first plane crashed.

So let's say this is the fault of autopilot. The thing about AI is that it will learn from it's mistakes where us humans continue to make the same mistakes. Also, don't forget that we have new drivers learning for the first time as well. So we will still have accidents and deaths with AI but it will be less than the current, human based system

This happened around Thankgiving, the NHTSA is investigating this incident and has yet to release a report. Probably smart not to assign and assume blame yet because, contrary to the uneducated opinion some of you carry, the Tesla driver could very well be at fault regardless of self-driving mode being on or not. Negligence is a factor and "duty of care" doctrine comes in to play, automatic assignment of blame to the rear driver(s) is no longer the case when there is video evidence which is why it's good to have a dash camera.

Tesla came to a controlled stop. Sure it surely have stopped, but what if a person has a blow out right there? There’s no shoulder to pull on. Why didn’t other drivers come to stop? Can we pull the cellphone data to see if they were being used leading up to accident?

Watch the video a little more detailed and you will notice the Tesla had its blinker on prior to changing lanes, didn't look like it cut in front of the other car, nor does it look like it slammed on the brakes. That is 100% the driver who rear ended the Teslas fault, but that's just a shitty place to stop.

Noticed that too.

If the car had Autopilot or FSD enabled, what could have happened is that the driver was not responding to the “nag feature” (Teslas check to make sure you’re applying pressure to/interacting with the steering wheel).

If you are unresponsive, the car will attempt to get you off of the road and come to a stop. That would explain the weird spot it chose to apply the brakes.
