Seattle Police No Longer Able To Call Suspects “Suspects”

Two month ago 19 year old Demarius Butts and his 17 year old sister went into a 7-11 to steal some beer and doughnuts. They showed off their gun to the store clerk Butts and his sister made a quick getaway, but then stopped for a smoke break. Quick to respond officers caught up to the duo who committed the armed robbery at the 7-11.

A shoot out quickly began with Butts being killed only after having shot three Seattle police officers. Be sure not to call Demarius Butts a suspect in this case apparently that would be incorrect politically. Many cops are not happy about the change, having to call call suspects like Butts “community member” instead.

The terms in terminology came from Washington Department of Corrections quit using the term “offender” to describe their inmates and are required to now call them students.Seattle Police officer, Kevin Stuckey, mentions how he does not see anything wrong with calling someone who is a victim a victim or calling someone who is a suspect and suspect.

Acting DOC Secretary, Dick Morgan wrote in an internal department memo saying that the term suspect does have negative connotation and significantly affects a broad group of the people and their communities. Morgan also mentions that times change and so does our language.

Students are what we are to call convicted killers, rapists, and felons while wannabe killers, rapist, and felons are now to be called community members.
