Orcas will be on display for years to come at Sea World...just not breeding/capturing and not gonna do the shows.
Ok that's fine...but everybody crying about the Orcas needs to take into account all the good that SeaWorld/Busch Gardens has done and is doing for animals of all species instead of acting like a bunch of pussies...
good for SeaWorld they are taking action on the public out cry but...still gonna do what's right for the animals in their care....and continue to do so and people should commend that...btw...those Orcas were/are treated just fine..

Sounds great.
You don't have to be a member of PETA to understand that orcas don't belong in a cement tank.
SJWs are a mostly despicable group, but even a blind squirrel finds a nut every once in a while.
Maybe then can work on the tiger off of I-10 next...

Didn't that tiger die already? He lived a full life I think too.

Ehh, perhaps, but the stock is up today nearly 7% on the news.

I can't believe that shite still exists. A tiger at a POS truck stop? What the hell is going on there?

As far as I can tell he is still alive and there. The court battle is still ongoing.
Look, I don't consider myself anywhere near a bleeding heart liberal, but it is hard to go to the zoo and not feel for some of these animals. We went recently with the kids and there were a few exhibits that just left you with an icky feeling, including some of the big cat exhibits and a giraffe exhibit that housed 2 animals in roughly 15,000 sq. ft.
A few goats and pigs in a petting zoo aren't going to get much sympathy from me, and the reptile exhibits, including alligator exhibits, seem to be pretty adequate, but large mammals that just pace back and forth near the fence is another story entirely.
I much prefer the open exhibits that have 10s of acres and grazing animals that run freely. You could do the same with big cats and other mammals. Not many places can afford to provide the habitat that a tiger like Mike has at LSU, but if you cannot do that, then you shouldn't acquire the animal in the first place.

Other than the fact that they are in cement tanks, sure. It is like saying I treat my dog just fine because I care for it inside of a kennel that it never leaves.

Looks like I moved from Orlando and let my Sea World annual pass expire at the right time!!!

Won't end Sea World, dolphins are just as big of an attraction.

Serious question here...What do they do with a freaking orca after it dies?

You sound like a hypocrite. You can't have it both ways man. Mike is in basically a kennel as you would say. He doesnt have acres to roam around. I fully expect you to do all you can to get Mike off of campus, and to shut down br zoo while you are at it.

I might be a hypocrite, but I didn't say Mike's situation is ideal. It should be the bare minimum, as in, if you can't do that, you shouldn't acquire a tiger in the first place.
Additionally I wouldn't claim to be a veterinary expert so I'm sure there are certain species that are better suited for captivity than others. Lastly, all animals are not created equally from a sympathetic standpoint. We obviously have a soft spot for mammals more than anything else.

The Blackfish film that a lot of the supposed outrage over Sea World's treatment of the Orcas has been shown to be a load of tripe.

Of course they are treated fine! They live a better life than most humans!
