Kind of makes sense. At some point in the evolution, a person emerged with certain traits that were advantageous. That person may have been a woman that only mated with the leader, or less likely, a male that was monogamous. Their offspring spread and became kangs.

All modern humans descended from a solitary pair who lived 100,000 to 200,000 years ago, scientists say.

Where are they saying the pair is a man, and woman?? Stop being a bigot, and assuming.

That was only 6,000 years ago according to the Christians.

According to a very small sect of Protestantism. Correct.

The vast majority of Protestants, the Catholic Church, and the Orthodox Church do not hold this view.

What I do find interesting is most religions were based on some fact. The Greek mythology was thought to be rooted in people finding dinosaur bones and taking it from there. Would be interesting if the old testement was based on folklore about an extinction event.

I’d have to read the wording of the actual paper, but couldn’t this just mean that we can all trace back to one shared pair of parents, and not that we all came solely from them - this pair had multiple children that bred with the other “humans” around at the time? I’d have trouble imagining a single mating pair being THE pinch point on the human family tree.

After all, can’t something like 20% of Europe trace themselves to Charlemagne because he married off all his daughters to the nobel families of the continent? And don’t a really high number of Asians have a connection to Genghis Khan?

This single set of parents came from Africa (Ethiopia). We are all Africans. Some just left earlier than others.

These bar codes, or snippets of DNA that reside outside the nuclei of living cells, suggest that it's not just people who came from a single pair of beings, but nine out of every 10 animal species, too

Sounds a lot like 9/10 animals were made in a controlled environment.

I am not religious but can say this is pretty obvious...

You really think two or more totally separate sets of homosapiens evolved apart from each other? Of course not.

You should do more research on this. Most DNA studies point to at least 7 different points of origin.

They didn't have gay names like those back then. Only once the christians came around did the names start to turn gayer.

I protest this sub-categorization, but you are correct: speculation about the age of the earth is in no way a tenet of Christianity.
