So because someone is old, they don’t have to pay their bills now?
You're now inventing facts?

She's been evicted to allow a landlord's relative to take the woman's apartment. Non-payment is not an issue.

Landlords like this is why God created tar and feathers.

I had a friend who was living in an apt in SF. The landlord wanted to boot them for “relatives” to move in... landlord had to pay all 4 tenants $8000/each, by law in California, for them to legally be forced to leave. She also gave them a 3 month heads up.

I agree that just because something is legal doesn’t make it right. My story is an example. I’d have to be a real POS to make my landlord pay me out even though they gave me plenty of time to find a place elsewhere.

California is trash. Why anyone would want to live there is beyond me.

don’t think this is about money. Are we assuming his daughter is going to pay market value rent? That’s not very likely.

I’d assume in the loophole sense you have the relative soon move out and someone else pay market

Are you saying the landlord broke the lease?

You mean people who want fair market rent? Those filthy bastages.

No but seriously, you private property right infringers are scum. I don’t care if the woman was 22, 102, or 1,002: she’s not owed a free ride.

It was a month to month lease, she gave them 3 months notice, ... landlord still had to pay them out due to the renters rights in Cali. I am not familiar with the renters rights or what came into play in this situation. I just know the tenents got paid

They basically played like they couldn’t find a spot to rent, and stayed in the house until she paid them out. Cali has some renters pool thing you go into for “low income” housing. If they would’ve just left when she asked, they wouldn’t have been back in the drawing pool for the cheap rent.

It’s all a big game and joke.

The landlord more than likely moved in other tenants. if you own property, you should be able to do whatever you want with it. And paying out $32,000 to random strangers is nauseating

....gives you an idea of how much they’re making.

Again, the family member moving in has 0 to do with anything in this story.
wrong, moving a family member in is the only way the landlord can evict her by law

and she is, by definition, being evicted

Landlord is well within his rights to not renew

Landlord is also a piece of crap (provided she has been paying her lease on time for 30 years)
pretty much sums up my thoughts on this

Again, evicted is past tense legal matter. This is a civil matter in current tense. She is only evicted if she refuses to leave. It’s a civil contractual matter up until that point.

Are you saying the 102 year old isn’t using the law on her side as much as possible? So that’s cool to use the law to not have to pay fair market value? But it’s wrong for the landlord to use the law?

If the lady wanted to pay market value this is a non issue and not happening. She is using the law on her side, now the landlord is using the law he can.

no

not saying that

conceptually I agree with you, just seems like a crappy thing for the landlord to do
