I’ve been practicing lines with my kindergartener for a school play for 2 months. This 20 min show was to begin at 6 pm and everyone would undoubtedly be gone by 7. They have been predicting thunderstorms since noon and it hasn’t rained a drop all day. After school activities have been canceled with only 60% chance of rain up until 9pm.
It’s a fricking joke.

Strong words from a Greek fella.
But there is great historical precedent for pedophilia, that thing most would currently say we could never accept. And the obvious place to start here is with ancient Greece.

As of now just Jeff Davis and Laffy Parish schools but you can bet teachers in other Parishes will complain that they should be off as well due to the “unsafe conditions. Think of the children!”
It's weird how many of these natural disasters fall on fridays or adjacent to three day weekends!

Parishes bank extra minutes each day so they probably need to burn em not to abbreviate days at the end of the year so relax- you’re getting you money’s worth.

You frickers are a riot. These more frequent school closings are all a result of frivolous lawsuits and deferring liability. Blame our sue-happy society, not teachers.
As often as this thread shows up, its amazing that so many here don't get this. Nobody is afraid of the rain, but if a school bus gets in an accident because of the weather, you can bet the parents of each one of those kids are gonna give their favorite personal injury attorney a call.

18z NAM 24 hour rainfall forecast:
Those selected numbers aren't the maximums. 13" is the maximum just NW of Lake Charles. Lafayette area maximum is 6".
High end rainfall potential.
ETA - The bulk of the rainfall in those areas is forecast overnight. 12 hour totals are running at 9" in Lake Charles and 6" in Lafayette.

In Eunice/lawtell/Opelousas area there's already flooded streets, is be surprised if we don't close here as well
Posted on 5/9/19 at 5:16 pm to slackster
They already made our last half day a full day. So I really don’t want to add another day.
Also I see no signs of this slowing down. It’s getting worse

I don't think I ever got a day off for rain from K-12. It wasn't a thing back then.
