public high school in my area is collecting $150 worth of fees. I paid them gladly but what happens to the kids who's parents refuse to pay? Pretty sure every parent can pay them, especially if given time to do so.

If you live in Pennsylvania they will have CPS take your kids if you don't pay

The fees are probably $50 so you're paying for you and 2 others.

Perhaps you should be attending as well.

We don't allow our students to attend school functions without paying. They threaten to not let them walk at graduation but I guess legally can't do that.

I don't pay them gladly. They're annoying. My total payment is more than 150 for 3 kids. However, in Alabama, parents can't be forced to pay fees for any classes required for graduation. If my kids were in general ed classrooms, no way I'd be paying. My 7th grader has 4 different fees that total $70.

What do the fees go towards? Like said, I'm sure it' $50 and you're paying for deadbeats kids. I'd ask for a list of what it pays for and go buy the crap yourself.

Will the kids be receiving anything during the year that isn't funded by the school?

Are they issued any devices (like ipad)?

Don't pay it and see what happens.

Why TF do we have graduation for every grade these days? Congrats little jaxson passed pre-k. We don't need any more than to advance them to the next grade.

Years ago I went to open house with my child.
I looked around the room as much as opening cabinets. They were stocked with, paper towels, tissue, hand sanitizer, etc. from previous years. Enough to give Walmart a challenge.
I asked the teacher what was the classroom fee used for. She told me to assist those kids that couldn’t afford supplies, etc.
I refused to pay. I told her if she had a kid that needed supplies to let me know and I would supply them but I am not paying that fee. Well, she didn’t notify me so I assume no one needed help.
After that year my children went to private school.

Here's an article discussing the subject. Seems like a shite show across the state with not many checks and balances.

My class fee is $5.00.
I buy scantrons for tests, copies for handouts and study guides, printer ink, and Glade plug ins to knock down the odor after teenagers don’t bathe and/or have PE before my class.
