TBH i don’t see how one person can safely drive and discipline 30 unrestrained kids at the same time. Esp with the lack of discipline and violence in youth today. Sounds like this woman was physically attacked while driving. I’m with the driver based on skimming the OP.

I can see how this could happen. When I retired from the FD, I thought I wanted to drive a bus, make a little extra money for limited hours and another retirement. I took the class, got the license and started driving, you had to start as a substitute driver. I drove all over Bossier Parish and finally told them that if I didn't drive in the City, I'm out. All those country roads and the directions/ route descriptions from the drivers were terrible, I got lost several times. One time, the driver told me to just pick up the first kid, she would tell me where to go, well, she was sick that day. I wanted to just go back and park the bus. It was 6:15 am and dark outside, luckily the next stop was about 100 yards away so that kid helped me. The country routes had to stop at every house because they were on state roads, they didn't want several kids walking along those roads to meet up at a central spot like in a neighborhood, those routes took a while.

I worked for the FD in Bossier City for 26 years so I knew the city like the back of my hand so i ended up getting sub routes in the city. The Middle School kids are the worst, especially in certain school districts. Those kids, to be more specific, the girls would fight almost every day, right there in the school parking lot. We're not allowed to stop them, we're to pull over and call the cops. One day, the kids were so bad and loud on the way home, I pulled over and just sat there. It was the beginning of the school year and it was HOT, no AC, I had a fan but nothing else. After a few minutes, the kids started asking, why aren't we going home, I told them I wasn't going anywhere until they sat down and shut up, after about 15 min sitting in the heat, a few of the bigger mature kids got up and started taking care of the problem kids and we left. I did that for about 3/4 of the school year and quit, it was not for me.

The bus was headed to KIPP East school

quote:

KIPP East (New Orleans) serves PreK-8 students, predominantly students of color, with a high percentage (around 83%) qualifying for free/reduced lunch, indicating a high-needs, urban demographic focused on academic support, with strong representation from Black and Hispanic/Latino students. Demographics show roughly 90% Black, 8% Hispanic, and small percentages of White and Asian students, with a near 50/50 gender split.
