i did not know over 100,000 people had gone down the ride before the tragedy/possible homicide

And in Kansas City, even those who cared little for water or who couldn’t afford Schlitterbahn’s $45 admission ($35 for children) would drive by the park just to get a look at Verrückt. At 168 feet 7 inches tall, Verrückt, which means “insane” in German, was taller than Niagara Falls. Three riders inside a rubber raft would plummet down a nearly vertical seventeen-story drop at speeds reaching up to 68 miles per hour. The moment they reached the bottom, they would shoot up a 55-foot-tall incline—the equivalent of a five-story building—before racing down one last steep slope, finally coming to a stop in a long, water-filled runout.

Wasn’t it because they let some obese person on?

Caleb’s head collided with a net and a semicircular metal hoop that arced over the top of the slide. The hoop sliced into his neck, and he was instantly decapitated. His head and body flew out of the raft and landed on the chute.
I mean wtf is wrong with this writer?

Yeah screw this story
Read through the description, which was not expecting to be so graphic, and now I am sick.

Worse the next paragraph. Couldn't imagine being down at the bottom.

it’s pretty horrible
unfathomable how they rolled the dice on something like this happening
68mph down a near vertical dive then immediately back up
playing fricking god with peoples lives like that on a fricking amusement park ride...

No, it was because of negligent design.
No person with any engineering credentials whatsoever was in responsible charge of the design of the slide.
They killed that kid because Jim Bob and his business partner "hey, hold my beer"d the design of the slide, ignored repeated concerns during the design/build process from technical people, and swept repeated injuries, reports of incidents, and concerns of the rank and file staff under the rug after the slide entered operation until they finally decapitated a kid.
They're going to pay dearly and they're going to get an all expenses paid trip to the Greybar Hotel because of their wanton disregard for human life.
Usually in cases like this, I'm skeptical on whether or not negligence occurred. In this case, there is no doubt in my mind. In this case, it goes way beyond negligence and extends into wanton disregard for human life, and that's second degree murder in the State of Kansas.

At the same time you could ask why so many chose to go on the slide themselves, assuming all had observed the ride beforehand

What do you mean? That's exactly what happened.

the ride sounds awesome, but definitely negligent

They are doubled strapped over the shoulders in the raft so I don’t get how the kid flew out

How graphic is it? I just wanna see a video of the ride. Don't wanna see anyone die. Especially a kid

Just watched a couple generic videos-The ride doesn’t look that harmful to be honest

when they were testing the ride

I think he was too light and the raft itself is what went airborn, but could be wrong.

Authorities later said the boy, who weighed 74 pounds (34 kg), should have been in the center of the raft between the other two female passengers – one weighing 275 pounds (125 kg) and another weighing 197 pounds (89 kg). Instead, he rode in the front causing an uneven weight distribution that contributed to the raft going airborne. The cumulative weight of 546 pounds (248 kg) was under the maximum recommended weight of 550 pounds (250 kg)
