Do you prefer crabbing or the forward slip when dealing with crosswinds?

Forward slip. Gotta come outta the crab and get the wind side wing down anyway, so why not just slip it in the whole way?

I once took off with full flaps and could figure out why I couldn't climb. I was already preparing to ditch in the lake when I saw the flaps lever and hit it.

What were you flying?

I crabbed it in. I was still very inexperienced. I was coming in too high and should have used the slip.

I've been on a plane that got struck by lightning twice.

Loudest noise I have ever heard.

I've also had an instance where we landed very hard.

Flight attendant came on PA system. Said it wasn't their fault. And it wasn't the pilot's fault. It was the asphalt.

Flew into Telluride Airport, which is on the side of a cliff, in a 40 mph crosswind and sleet. Swore that I would rent a car and drive all the way back to Louisiana if I made it to the ground alive. 50 year old pilot said it was the worst approach and landing conditions of his career and being in a Citation instead of a King Air saved us.

172, I was getting lift, but not enough.

Was like my 3rd or fourth solo.

I never brought it up.

On a flight to Miami the two people in seats beside me got in a fight. It started when some hood rat on her way to a cruise brought a giant suitcase with her and had it crammed under her feet and taking up foot room for rest of row. When she had to remove it and check it, she slung it out of the row and hit seat mate in shins. He quietly bitched about that.

The flight attendant comes by and hood rat tries to buy alcohol with an EBT card. Seat mate dude (a black guy) says "you just the type of n---a to try that shite." Hood rat swings her forearm across his chest and he pushes her head into the side of plane. Lots of N words and a lot of scratching and clawing. Hood rat's family was on row behind us and they got in on action. I just got up and stood in aisle.

There were Feds waiting on us at the gate.

As some others on here..As a private pilot, commercial flights are not scary and turbulence is sometimes annoying, not scary.

Just 2 weeks ago we were in a Bonanza leaving Fulton County Field in Atlanta on departure climbing through 3k feet for 6k and got caught in a nasty thermal updraft on a hot day in front of a frontal boundary.

The auto pilot disengaged and it got really dicey for about 30 seconds. Scary stuff at times in aviation but still love to fly no matter what.

Not really an answer the OP was fishing for, but for me it was the first time I got on the C-130 all rigged up and ready to jump for the basic airborne course at fort benning. I intellectually understood fatalities are exceedingly rare, but that still didn't stop my primal instincts from telling me I was just about to die. The first time walking to the on ramp feeling the exhaust and prop wash coming from the propellers, sitting down, watching the wheels go up inside the aircraft, hooking up and getting the commands from the jump master and trying to keep my balance standing up during the bumpy ride while getting ready to jump to what felt like my certain death was something I'll never forget.

Checklist checklist checklist ...

Why did you have full flaps when solo? Short runway? Practicing short field?

120 knots @ 2500 feet at night in a helicopter and hit a duck which came through the windshield, you cannot imagine the loudness of the "boom"

We were on our way back from a senior trip to Italy when the plane was struck by lightning over the Atlantic. Sounded like a gun going off and all the lights went out. A few girls screamed. Something like that will certainly wake you up from your nap.
