A comment from Kathryn's report.....

quote:

Look at the flight path and weather radar on flight aware. It was suicide in a Cessna 210.

I took a look at the flight path on FlightAware

LINK

Under Flight Details, click View Track Log and you see where they flew into a shite storm and looks like it created a situation that exceeded the design of the airframe.

Sad stuff that looks like it could have been avoided.

Landing at Aspen airport during a blizzard. For those who have never landed there the pilots have to make a 90 degree turn around one mountain to line up with the valley then they have to clear the top of another mountain before dropping down to the runway. Visibility was very, very low and they told us at takeoff from Denver there was a chance we would be diverted to another airport due to the conditions in Aspen. Usually you can see the runway lights when the plane is making its turn but not that day. We skimmed dangerously close over the top of the mountain at the end of the runway but the pilots managed to put it down. Most of the people on the plane were praying and had death grips on the seat backs. I wasn't too worried until I saw how close we were to the mountain top at the end of the runway. I fully expected us to come up short of the runway.
