Not a sexy thread as nothing happened. Person I grew up with (Joe Percoco) Could be the person to keep Mario Cuomo from running for president in 2020. A recent article came out saying he hired the highest paid firm New York (up to $1k per hour) and people were wondering how can he afford that. Even if he wins he is crushed financially.
ANYWAY, if you were looking at a pretty bad white collar crime rap and facing 5 years would you pick as your legal defense;
A) Established, white shoe firm with silver foxes with press clippings of past victories adorning the walls
B) Less proven/hungry firm with guys/girls looking to make their mark to one day stand in same shoes as firm A.
I was an estate executor - less consequence - and I went with B against sibs wishes. I think it is very analogous to boxing - I’ll bet on the guy with more to gain and less to lose then vice versa.
The A firms always have referrals coming in. Blow one and so what?

Firm A hands down. A guy who has litigated big or complex cases successfully can either win a case outright or convince the prosecutor he can get you the best plea deal possible.

Cause hungry people always make the smartest and most rational decisions.

Both, put number two on retainer and pay A. Or vice versa depending on your budget.

I apologize to the board that my post ignited day ad from Jacobian Myers. At least my jurisdiction. I hadn’t heard of them since the early 90s

Firm A. Good chance Firm A has lawyers with years of "socializing" and building good relations with judges, da's, etc. They know a lot more about playing the system than a hungry firm looking to make a name.

Was on the other side of one of these situations. The other side had a smart, well qualified, but also ambitious and obnoxious up and comer. She (woman lawyer from up north, relocated to Louisiana) got the other side what they "wanted" but it took about a year longer and ate up nearly all their gains in legal fees. I believe by the end she was doing things to further her own interest and not her clients.
We were willing to make a deal everyone could live with but she was having none of it.
