Savannah, GA Recommendations
Posted by Bayou Teche Bengal on 6/3/16 at 12:45 pm00
Recently got a job offer that would require me to move to Savannah. After doing a little research I've seen that the crime rate is a little high there. Any recommendations on where a safe areas to live in or around the city?

Wilmington or Tybee Island is usually pretty good.
If you want to get the classic Savannah experience, you should stay by Forsyth Park
Good Luck on finding good food/beer...I was very disappointed

The Olde Pink House.
One of the best meals I've ever had.
Did you eat somewhere on River Street? Lots of overrated tourist trap type places around there.

Didn't eat on River St or Olde Pink House
We stopped at a few places... The Distillery was one I remember being the most disappointed about

Look at Wilmington island also. It's on the way to Tybee. I lived there for two years while working in savannah. This was many years ago but at that time Wilmington was a very nice place.

You were disappointed in the beer selection at the Distillery? I enjoy the food there. It won't knock your socks off but it's bar food. It is good for what it is.

We live on Whitemarsh Island(right next to Wilmington Island) and love it. Very clean, no crime, lots of bars and restaurants and only ten minutes from the beach.

Georgetown is pretty good. That's where I just moved from. That construction on the main highway is a bitch though. Traffic everyday. I live in Richmond Hill now. Pooler is right outside of Savannah and by two interstates.
To be frank, Google the racial dot map and zoom in. Take what you will from that.

Damn I can't remember her name
I ate at her restaurant last year, wasn't bad. Also, if Mrs. Wilkes is still open, touristy or not, is awesome down home type grub. Only open for breakfast and lunch. Used to be cash only, have to put up your dishes when done.
you know who old Paula is!

Just got finished working in Savannah. Great town.
Yes, it does have its share of ratchet neighborhoods, but so does every other town.
I was meeting this sales lady for an Appointment, and it was in a bad neighborhood for Savannah. I had to wait on her, and when she finally got there, she asked "why did you get here early? This is a bad neighborhood." I just looked at her and laughed and said you need to go to Gary, IN or Philly. Those are some rough streets.
There are good places to eat in Savannah. That's for sure. The Pirate House is not a "great" meal, but it's fun if you have kids. Their take on Fried chicken was unusually good.
Go to Leopold's and get some ice cream.

I was just there a couple weekends ago.
The Public was great for food, and The Distillery had a good beer selection.
ETA: Treylor Park was also good for food.
