SAN JOSE (KPIX 5) – The number of people packing up and moving out of the Bay Area just hit its highest level in more than a decade.

Of course people come and go from the Bay Area all the time, but for the first time in a long time, more people are leaving the Bay Area than are coming in. And the number one place in the country for out-migration is now, right here.

Russell Hancock with Joint Venture Silicon Valley said, “Silicon Valley has been this place that is growing. And it was mostly growing because…people relocating here and relocating from other parts of the world. That’s changing.”

Joint Venture Silicon Valley’s own study of the out-migration says workers are moving to Sacramento, Austin, and Portland due to a number of factors. But topping the list is the high cost of housing.

20 seconds in it, tv was off.

I wouldn't live there. The local government is damn near communist. Also, the higher salaries don't offset the cost of living. My brother lived there for years and eventually bailed to Texas. There are nice places to live where an 800 sq ft condo won't cost you 1.5 million.

Maybe people are tired of the "serial shitters" roaming the city.

Historically, yes it is.. Also, New Orleans is pretty important to the US... You know, the whole mouth of the Mississippi River thing..

But New Orleans has an international appeal. Food, mardi gras, etc... I think you probably underestimate New Orleans.

New Orleans is a shite hole. People go there to get drunk and puke in the streets. Then they go back home to real cities.

As far as New Orleans goes, what do you want me to do? I look and see a broken down city, crooked politicians, and a populace without a clue living in some sort of grandiose past or a "I'll get mine" future. Why would I spend my prime earning years paying taxes in a place that frankly doesn't want me? I'm one exam away from being a CPA, so why not Denver? Why not Seattle? Why not Dallas/Austin? Every single one of those cities offers better infrastructure, better planning, more outdoor activities, far more educated populace, and actually wants me.

Me either. There's that sea serpent that has been proven to be real beyond any reasonable doubt.

Less than a page for a topic that has absolutely nothing to do with New Orleans to become all about New Orleans.

Even by OT standards that’s impressive.
