So you think if he would have complied from the very beginning and kept his hands on that car, so they could properly search for the reported firearm, that Salamoni still would have tackled and shot him?

Lololol

Lake had the scene under control?

There was a fricking drugged up, crack selling felon with a fricking gun in his possession and you think the scene was under control?

What is factual is that when Salamoni arrived on the scene Lake had the scene under control until the raging lunatic ran up and pointed his gun at the head of Sterling and started making threats without any reason to do so. Now if Lake was in a struggle or Sterling had his gun out then I might have a different opinion

So in your mind you believe that if Blaine wouldn't have showed up, Howie would have been able to get Alton to hand over his gun and peacefully be placed under arrest?

Did you not see the video of him reaching for the gun while wrestling with the officers? Was he going to hand it to them for safe keeping?

Maybe keep the situation somewhat peaceful, like it was before Salamoni showed up?

You mean when Sterling was threatening to shoot people?

You're going to have to explain how that doesn't escalate the situation.

I have to explain to you why cops pulling a gun and yelling at you to obey them doesn't make most people comply?

I've never been arrested, but I've been very close to a shite ton of friends and people at bars and parties arrest.

I can tell you that once the cops put hands on people, almost everyone chills out completely.

The ones that don't comply immediately, they go bat shite crazy until they are completely contained by multiple cops.

I don't think Sterling was going to be arrested by 2 cops. I don't know how far behind back up was, but I think he was going to fight it out no matter what.

People keep saying this, but seriously how does a cop pointing a gun at your head ESCALATE a situation?

I'm fairly pro law enforcement in most cases but he walked up and within seconds was screaming "I'm going to shoot you in your fricking head".

Sterling wasn't being particularly combative at the time. Non compliant but I didn’t think his actions warranted that type of aggression yet. I thought he went way overboard and I've defended him in the past based on the video that was previously available.

No it’s because sterling refused to put his hands on the car so they could retrieve his firearm.

He was told multiple times to stop resisting and put his hands on the car or he would be shot.

That’s textbook.

Again, I feel so awkward being in this position as I would normally back the cops.

Resisting is not cause for lethal force.

Sterling was contained and his hands were visible when Salamoni went in for the tackle.

Had they stayed drawn down on Sterling and waited for back up, which would be warranted for an armed suspect call, we wouldn’t be here talking about this.

I’m gonna give cops the benefit of the doubt until I shouldn’t.

Here to clarify:

1. Sterling's business is CD sales which means pay me for the CD and go round the corner and see the dude who has the real reason you came by. Black people on North Foster or North Stadium do not want Cds in such a demand. Believe it or not, most of them use their phones and frequent YouTube or yes, Apple music. Do musicians and "rappers" still use CDs as a medium? Yeah...but they pay the gas station/store, as in said store pays them 10 to 20 bucks for what they hope will turn into a couple of hundred bucks in profit at best. Mostly, it is break even. But BR likes their locals sometimes...and what they cannot hear via internet, they turn to CDs. Alton was not out night after night selling Cds. He also had a drug habbit...he has to pay for that somehow. Cocaine aint cheap...x neither. Sounds to me like he was on the bottom of the food chain for some also small fry dealer.

2. Salamoni likely reminds a lot of us of the hot-tempered and roid-raged cop we all once knew. Cops come in all shapes and sizes and personalities but that dude is on every force in every PD nation-wide.

3. Sterling was an idiot but tonight, Salamoni gets NO love from me. Now, i hope he has to think about more than just Alton. This a-hole came in far too hot. He and Sterling are both just stupid people.

A cop points a gun at my head, and I freeze.

ETA: A cop tazes me (twice btw), and I freeze

A cop tackles me, I freeze.

Salamoni didn't not act properly, but i disagree he escalated the situation at all.

If pulling a gun doesn’t escalate a situation why isn’t it the immediate go to policy?

It makes the situation higher risk when lethal consequences come on the table.

You just admitted he didn’t act properly. So don’t try & pull this shite.

I’m asking you specially why you think he didn’t escalate the situation with the way he acted.

You keep telling me stuff that has nothing to do with my question.

We must be watching different videos, because the videos I'm watching from today's release show Sterling giving passive/defensive resistance. He's never aggressive and has several opportunities to attempt a gun draw if that's what he wanted to do. I still give Salamoni the benefit of the doubt that he honestly interpreted Sterling's hand movements on the ground to be a reach for the gun and thus legitimately feared being shot. And while Sterling certainly isn't just a big 'ol teddy bear as per his family, he isn't a berserking maniac in the video by any stretch.

He was a known felon that had a previous encounter with BRPD were a gun fell out his firearm while being arrested.

Neither. I'd put 3 in his chest immediately. And FWIW my home defense weapon of choice is my AR. Pistols are considered sidearms for a reason.

I chose a bad example. Home invasion was not the way to go.

My point was that if you had control of a person at gunpoint, why would you holster and wrestle.

FWIW, I have an AR and 9mm within 3 feet of me as I post this, lol.
