I have known people to commit crimes and still get jobs at fortune 500 companies. This guy didn't even commit a crime. He just made a few comments.

This is just not true. I've been a part of hiring process for 2 very large and respected publicly traded companies and if there is any "googling" of candidates its very light and done by the interviewers, not HR.
Background check with FBI/State, drug test, and resume vetting are the only 3 major things HR does.
