South Carolina doesn’t do enough to make this risk known. Ticks me off.

Pretty damn sad. Keep waiting for positive updates on FB. It scares the shite out of me with having a 2 year old.
Growing up we lived on the water 24/7. Especially during the summer on nasty arse Lake Bisteneau.
Praying for a miracle.

This stuff scares me probably more than it should. After it warms up I don't encourage any swimming in natural waters
A bunch of things had to happen and I wouldnt let the fact that this does exist and can happen keep you from swimming in rivers and lakes. In the same vein that a plane can fall out of the sky shouldn't keep you from flying

It’s also not a reportable illness and most states don’t bother to test, warn or track it.
There was a very sad death here in SC last year, a boy died… we only know because the parents raised hell and went to the media. No telling how many we DON’T know about.

In the last 20 years Louisiana has had 3 cases TOTAL
2 of those cases were from Neti Pots
It’s up to you as a parent how you want to respond to that, but tie EXTREMELY rare
ETA: the entire US has had 173 cases since 1937

Exactly. Our kids are far more likely to do in a car accident, but we don't think twice about driving.

We do make them wear seat belts. We think twice about driving in crappy weather.
Nose clips are no different or extra than any other safety precaution.

Maybe because the majority of our recreational waterways are flowing? Not sure, but may have something to do with it. With that being said this is God awful and will be praying for this little girl.

perhaps symptoms which include brain deterioration make it difficult to detect in Alabama.
