I see his point.

An opinion is something like "I think blue is the best color".
A fact is something like "2 * 2 = 4".
What you are saying is similar to "I think 2 * 2 = 7, that's just my opinion". Except that's not an opinion because it is factually incorrect.
Evolution simply means change over time in populations. This is an observable fact.
Natural selection is the theory that genes are passed on more frequently if they are beneficial to the organisms survival and reproduction.
Common descent is the theory that all life shares a common ancestor.
If you have a better theory that explains the facts before us then present it. Bear in mind that a scientific theory must be falsifiable. If there's no way for it to be proven false then it's not a scientific theory.

Ignorance is often the only way to maintain their religious beliefs. True knowledge makes believing the same things Bronza age nomads believed very difficult.

Anybody that believes we all descended from a pool of genetic goo is fact is a fool.
I see evolution in my business--we can see that men in the USA have evolved into taller beings over the last 500 year for example.
What I cannot prove and neither can anyone here prove is that man was once a totally different species. It is all theory.
It is foolish to deny evolution within species and it is foolish to embrace as fact evolution from simpler life forms.
Why people are so adamant about either position is beyond me. It takes a certain arrogance to take either position as fact.

When someone says "It's all theory", all it tells me is you can't grasp high concepts.

Because over millions of years, a species will become so genetically distinct than his cousin that went down another evolutionary path that they are no longer compatible.
Look at dogs for god's sake and how they've evolved just over the past 1000 years. Then try to imagine if they keep evolving at that rate for another million? Then imagine another 10 million.

Because I don't think prideful ignorance of our place in the universe should be tolerated. You people spout off ignorance and then get angry when smarter more well informed men call you out on it. I want to educate the masses and learn more about the universe at large. Some of the posters here I think long for the good old days of the 50s, and by 50s I mean 1650s, when you were burnt at the stake for showing your ankle.

We can prove humans share a common ancestor with different existing species. The fact that you can't or won't acknowledge this is irrelevant.

Coming to conclusions based off of this information, as well as everything else we know, isn't that difficult.

“Anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.'”

It's crazy because the South in the US is one of the few places in the world where evolution is even open to debate anymore.
The evidence for evolution, common descent, and natural selection is so overwhelming that literally the only people who disagree with it are those who choose to remain willfully ignorant due to religious conviction.

I'll post this again:
Above is the most recent figure showing the phylogeny of all life on earth. These trees are connected through various molecular techniques such as 16s/18s rRNA sequencing and DNA-DNA hybridization. Areas in our genetic code have been identified to be both highly conserved amongst all life, and unique from various phyla to individual species. This gives a road map for how individual species developed. You will notice that the tree is not rooted because we currently cannot pinpoint the last universal common ancestor (LUCA).
Above, you can see that there are numbers next to each individual. These are real numbers derived from their genes to see how these lineages fit, and how long it has been since they branched into something different.

Early evolution is still full of controversy within the scientific community. Here are the four most popular hypotheses:
Prebiotic Soup (genetic goo)
RNA World
Iron-Sulfur Origins
Hydrothermal Vent Hypothesis
Our best guess is that early life began through a combination of several of these. However, some are more compatible than others.

Rush Limbaugh is undeniably an intelligent man, albeit misguided. But he is living breathing proof that intelligent individuals can believe in something so strongly that they are willing to overlook overwhelming scientific evidence just to prove their belief to themselves. In my opinion, that is not a good quality in a President.
He's not running for POTUS you ignorant twit. I find it quite sad that the majority in here have been indoctrinated into believing that evolution is indeed FACT & that just by chance...each species happened to evolve from a "cosmic cesspool" I don't understand how you dont believe that we werent intelligently created...especially when you look at the very building blocks of life....DNA

I really wish they would focus most of their attention on abiogenesis
it would be a much better discussion

How can you possibly accept that as fact??

Next thing y'all book learnin folks will tell us that crystals grow from some kind of molecular soup!
Look at them there smooth edges. They been intelligently designed. Little baby molecule-sized Jesus running around in there stacking up atoms all neat to look like it's been cut and polished. No other way to explain it!
