I turn 70 in a couple weeks. My dad had a bad ticker. My maternal grandfather died at age 70, in fact, on his 70th birthday, from a heart attack. My maternal grandmother died at 68 from heart disease. Before I started running, I had a heart calcium scan and a stress test.

My wife is 65. She ran track at the Div 1 level in college, and has been physically active her entire life since.

Both of her parents and her older brother have all had heart issues.

She just recently had a calcium scan and the doc says she has a 60% blockage. No need for surgery. He can treat it with medication.

Genetics trump exercise and healthy eating.

Way too many people doing these races without proper training You can’t just show up and run these things without preparing your body

I signed up for my company's 401k, but I don't think I can run that far.

Being that he was employed by Ochsner, I would assume he was forced to take a few.

No. There are gatekeepers at every corral that confirm the color of your bib before letting you in the corral.

Surprising, with that name I would have guessed a financial planner!

I saw him being attended to. It was pretty obvious something serious happened. I felt like an a-hole that I kept running.

Then they need to a better job. I was in the red group and I spent the first mile dodging power walking heffers

A lot of slower runners and walkers line up in the front. I would spend more time going around people than going straight ahead.

This gets on my nerves. So many yahoos start in the red coral (highest non-seeded) and are walking in the first mile. I ran an extra 3 tenths dodging people.

Egenberg sponsors the crescent city classic. Will they sue themselves?

I’ve seen people running in 5Ks stopping for a “smoke break”. I asked them “are you crazy”? They said it gave hem a “boost” when they started getting tired.

It's not for me
This is why I've never done it. Even in less popular races people frequently line up in corrals where they dont belong and I have to spend the first 2 miles weaving around slower runners.

I stay away from the CCC because most of the participants have no idea what they are doing.
I no longer have the balance to run due to injury so I hike with a pack instead (which I also find way more enjoyable) but I've done a lot of running in the past. What are they fricking up? I always just kinda... ran.
