There is absolutely no reason to drop thousands of dollars on a private EBR education with top public school districts in Zachary, Central, Livingston and Ascension all around.

Traffic is one main reason why we do it. We like living 10 minutes from work. That and my wife doesn't like living in the burbs. We also only have one school aged kid. I'm a Central alum btw so nothing against the suburban public schools.

Not everyone lives in those zones

But private school enrollment has been in decline in US for 25 years

Was Runnels started by Dr. Runnels, the Chemistry professor at LSU?

Has long been my question as well.

I was in his chem class in late 80s.

Thought the school was his wife’s project, but I don’t know her background at all, other than assuming that Dr Runnels married a fellow smartie who could start and run a school.

Yes. He is a brilliant, kind man.

Class of '01 here.

D.R. and Mrs. Runnels are wonderful people and close family friends. I hate this for them, but the writing was on the wall.

Curious question for you all. What is University High’s niche in the private schools of BR ?

Nationwide private schools in trouble... shrinking demographic..... fewer students going private every year.

One demographic gets paid to have kids that destroyed the public school system, another demographic can't afford to have children because of the cost of a functional education.

What you subsidize increases what you tax decreases.

Class of ‘02 here! I agree that I hate to see it close, but I get it. The funding isn’t there.

All his kids except one was in high school before Runnels had a high school. Last one Graduated Runnels.
First Runnels graduating class was around 88/89

Baton Rouge has a high number of private schools per capita. Could you imagine what would happen if SG actually got a decent school system. I'm not saying it will, but if it did the private schools would be decimated. Most would fold, and Catholic High would be the only one immune.
