Then where would you get your gas from?

Only field workers with truck nuts are losing jobs right?

It is the same logic. If you made decisions knowing the potential consequences and you get roasted by those consequences, why should I feel sorry for you, right?

Or does that only apply if you own truck nuts?

All good with me. Less of that garbage at the workplace. Too many of those Houston guys coming in every few months and acting like the trash that they are.

That sucks. Hopefully it's not true.

I still don't understand why people on TD hate anything oilfield related.

I suppose the same place I'll be getting it when all these thousands of people are laid off.

Oh so you don't think people should choose careers in the industry but you have no problem with consuming the product they help to produce. Gotcha.

Damn, that would be bad, how many employees does Shell currently have in the city?

We laid off about 30 this week between Nola, baton Rouge and Houston.

Tough times for sure

Haven't most of these companies been recording bazillions in profits annually for decades now? And then a downturn hits and they start cutting. It sounds like the failure to responsibly plan for a rainy day is systemic from the top down to truck nuts.

I wonder if these companies would cut jobs just to force some kind of market correction via govt interference?

Not even close to the point.

Nobody has a problem with anyone choosing a career in the industry, just don't act all surprised and expect "woe is me" sympathy from those who chose something more stable.

I kinda feel the same about it as I do when someone who moves to the French Quarter complains about noise levels, or moves on/near a parade route and complains about parking, moves on/near the beach and complains about storms, etc.

The profit margin % is low coupled with the fact they have high expenses causes causes that. Its no different from any other industry that is labor and tech intensive.

Exactly, the cost of operation is outrageous. Hell we spend a billion+ a year just on r&d. If you think about what goes into making a gallon of gas and the fact that it is cheaper than a gallon of milk, oj and water is fricking insane and impressive. Yet people still bitch like crazy while paying premiums for there organic food.

Between Chevron and Shell the metro area is about to loose a lot of high paying white collar jobs. Not to mention the states economy is going to take a big hit and the budgets about to get a lot worse. Enjoy the higher taxes.

That is pretty much a perpetual rumor that has gone on for years. I'm not sure if Shell has the office space there for all the Nola folks.

Some folks/positions are moving there but this was known a while back.

A mass exodus to Houston doesn't make sense economically.
