We don't need a law specifically for this. As a business you should have the right to use force to stop someone from stealing from you.

It may be different in Livingston, and I would be it is, but in EBR, shoplifting likely won't even be prosecuted by the DA and if it is, they plea it out to no punishment whatsoever.

While I understand that, I am telling you that all these idiot bad guys have to do is to sue and get a copy of their shoplifting policy. When it states not to go out after someone then they will win a judgement against them. I have seen it happen.
I get them getting upset but shoplifting happens everywhere all the time. A couple of 40 oz and some toilet paper isn't worth losing your job over and getting a lawsuit because the company will not back the employee.
Once again, I have dealt with these cases before.
