The surgery is a knee replacement... How old is he, maybe he wants to wait a little longer to have it done? I need knee replacements and I'm waiting, the Synvisc worked for me..

had an MRI and just found out I have a subchondral fracture in the tibial plateau
I had micro fracture 8 years ago on my femoral plateau. Helped for about 6 then I had to go in with the injections and a "clean up"scope to get the rest of my miniscus.
Now I'm looking at a massive OATS surgery to get a new miniscus and cartilage. Or I can get a fake knee at my tender age.
Knee issues are nothing to trifle with.

Below is what he said and it's not knee replacement. Sounds to me that he can have his meniscus "fixed" someway.

Just did my first gel shot Monday.
If this doesn't work, will get it scoped.
I do understand that if you lose the entire meniscus you'll have to have the knee replaced.

I thought the injections supposed to be agonizing.

They are somewhat painful, but I wouldn't describe it as "agonizing".

Your knee is not going to get better. Your essentially going to be bone on bone. Stop getting all the injections and whatever bullshite your doing and just get a total done. You will feel a lot better.

Does Rooster Comb gel have any hardening or stiffing properties? I ask for a friend.

Knee replacement on the horizon
Posted on 4/13/22 at 1:18 pm to RockyMtnTigerWDE
right was replaced last dec 20, left knee will be replaced may 2.
shots worked for about a year
list price on the right knee is about 85 thousand dollars . insurance coverage?
medicare covers cost very well
the joints last for about 15 years, are you going to live past 80?
Surgery was outpatient 90% of time in hospital ?I was blissfully asleep
Rehab therapy was downright brutal, Doc was free with pain killer support

I feel you get the knee surgery if it will greatly improve your quality of life and if that is at 40, 50 or 60 than that is what it is. If the other alternatives are no longer bringing relief.
No reason living miserable till you turn 65 or 70 and then go, okay now my replacement should outlive me.

Who knows. Maybe someday, but my current wife may have some thoughts on this subject.

I thought the injections were supposed to be agonizing.
My mom got Supartz (sp?) about every 6 months for several years. She bitched about the pain one or twice, and then her orthopod gave her the injection while we were still in "how have you been" phase of the appt. It was great!
I saw him give her the shot, but we had her distracted. When she said she was "ready" for the shot, he told her she was already done. She didn't believe him until he showed her the empty syringe.
Reiss Plauche, MD. in Covington. He was very good dealing with my mom, which wasn't always the easiest thing.

Wool of bat, and tongue of dog,

Lizard's leg, and owlet's wing,—
For a charm of powerful trouble,
Like a hell-broth boil and bubble
Double, double toil and trouble;
Fire burn, and caldron bubble.”

So who is that lovely lady?
Posted on 4/13/22 at 5:44 pm to Tempratt
I’m glad you asked, I’ve been wanting to know for a minute.

The first alleviated the pain somewhat for a couple of months. The next two injections had no effect on my knee pain. A few months ago, the doctor scoped my knee to remove "debris" from a torn meniscus so this morning he recommended another gel treatment for the arthritis still causing pain. So far so good today. Yes, the gel is really derived from rooster combs.
You will likely have a partial/total knee in the next few years. I’m a PT in a hospital and have heard your story at least a thousand times.
At some point a surgeon will also tell you that your knee is the worst they’ve ever seen.

She's a somewhat obscure British songstress of whom I've been a fan for many years. I was supposed to meet her in London a couple of years ago, but the pandemic put the Kabosh on that.
