Had the same issue, bought a Neato brand because it has a stronger vacuum and we've been very happy.

hmmm looks like they are a bit cheaper. I'm a sucker for brands, but if this one is just as good, I might give it a shot.

However, I am worried a roomba in my house would get full in 3 minutes from dog hair. Thats the only think holding me back from buying one.

This. My dog can be a workload. I know it can ride itself back up and dock when it gets full, but I feel like I would be unloading that thing every 20 minutes.

I like the idea but if you have a cluttered area (lots of furniture or other impedances), how does it handle them?

There are sensors on the sides and bottom. It drives around everything in my house and even slows down before it bumps into most things. It's sensitive enough that it has bumped into my tripod and not only didn't knock it over but barely moved it.

I have two large dogs that lose a lot of hair. It has only gotten so full that it stopped and asked to be emptied a couple of times and that was right after we got it. Once it has gone under things a couple of times the heavy vacuuming is over if you keep it on a schedule.

Our house is a split level. It does the top level, middle level and bottom level each twice a week and it gets one day off a week. It runs for 1-2 hours during each session. The three levels that it vacuums are a combined 4300 sq ft.

Thanks for the info. It won't overload then. Your two dogs probably tops mine by a good bit. I also try to brush her outside on somewhat of a routine schedule, and if I do that, it's a lot less worse.

I guess my next fear would be that my dog would chase it around for the 1-2 hours. But my better guess is that she runs in fear, gets on a bed and doesn't come down until it stops.

Invest in 3 things:

1. a wire brush (you already have one)

2. a "Furmanator". Go on amazon for this and get appropriate one for your dog's hair length. Works for all hair lengths and HOLY shite it helps.

3. a "matte splitter" if you have a longer haired pup. Also on Amazon and really cuts off clumps of loose hair.

Good bet there.

What size Roomba?

I will be making this purchase asap. I hate sweeping up dog hair probably more than any other activity in this world.

I want clean floors and I want very little to do with getting them clean. The combo of the two makes my wish come true.

I got the 780 because it came with a spare maintenance set (brushes, filter, etc). When I replace the new set I'll buy a new maintenance set so I always have one of hand.

My entire house is wood floors. Roomba or Scooba, which would you pick?

we have a large, heavy shedder. the roomba works wonders with dog hair - keeps us from having to sweep or swiffer daily. the only downside is you have to clean the hair out of brushes and wheels after every few uses, but i don't really mind this. just about everything on the roomba is designed to be easily removed and cleaned.

I'm in the same boat. We got the Roomba and I'm glad we started with that. It does entire floors in one instance. A Scooba only does 150 sq ft at a time so I'd have to set lighthouses up as barriers and run it multiple times. However, I only see using a Scooba twice a month on each area. I do the Roomba twice a week on each area.

The amazing thing is that you end up watching the damned thing. It's mesmerizing the way it works.

my neato can kick your roombs's butt

dirt exterminator
comparison

unless it has changed since last year, the roomba cleans in a random pattern while neato has linear mapping.

anytime you ready, bring it on bro

Neato had great reviews as does the Roomba.

From the reviews I gathered the Roomba is quieter, but the Neato has a stronger suction.

my house is like 80% wood/tile, and roomba works great. scooba was more for mopping as i understood it. i don't feel the need to mop all the time as long as dirt is off floors, but that may be a matter of preference. also, i don't mind mopping as much as daily sweeping
