Let me know your experiences with cargo carriers on top of vehicle (SUV).

Hard plastic or soft bag? Are the bags really fully waterproof?

Do the bags rest on top of the roof or on top the rails? Are they ok to sit on top of glass panoramic roof?

Thanks for your input

I'd always go with the hard plastic, the bags never really work.

I'd go hard case, even though they are definitely more expensive. But you don't have to worry about loading a certain way to achieve weather proofness or proper load distribution.

Definitely not. Pano roofs aren't made for that kind of loading. If you don't have factory roof rack, you can get Q towers or similar for your vehicle to add an easily removable rack.

I wouldn’t set anything on a sunroof.

I put Yakima crossbars on my wife’s Explorer and use a Yakima cage with the dry bag. If I hadn’t already had the cage, I would have gone with the rocket box. Putting stuff on the roof severely impacts gas mileage.

We have a Yakima Rocketbox.

It's great. You can fit a surprising amount in it.

Allowed us to buy a QX60 instead of a larger SUV (since the only time we would need that much storage behing the second row was on long duration trips). We got the roof rails and crossbars with the intention of getting one.

Although rarely used ( 1X per year), I am still using a hard top carrier from the mid 80s.
I doubt a soft bag one would last that long.

There are consequences of, though. It is easier to store a soft bag rather than the hard plastic ones.

I have the tracks on sides so will only have crossbars to attach to.

I have a hardtop carrier with crossbars that fit Ford Explorer track that I no longer need you can have if it will work for you.

Wife felt the need to upgrade to Land Rover by crashing the Explorer last year.

Constantinople

Istanbul was Constantinople
Now it's Istanbul, not Constantinople
Been a long time gone, Oh Constantinople
Now it's Turkish delight on a moonlit night

Every gal in Constantinople Lives in Istanbul, not Constantinople
So if you've a date in Constantinople
She'll be waiting in Istanbul

Even old New York was once New Amsterdam
Why they changed it I can't say
People just liked it better that way

So, Take me back to Constantinople
No, you can't go back to Constantinople
Been a long time gone, Oh Constantinople
Why did Constantinople get the works?
That's nobody's business but the Turks
