There are still hundreds of books available on the subject of the civil war. It has not been banned from classrooms anywhere. There are still museums open all over with artifacts and knowledge on the subject. History isn't truly being rewritten. The only thing that's being removed is symbolism. This is I guess why I don't fully understand why it's so upsetting to people.

This. Distinct difference between a place of honor & place in history .

Good thing Southern Housewives' like the Daughters of the Confederacy now have to actually work instead of wasting time putting up statues to these traitors.

Between them & the KKK it's stunning how many of these monuments are up(hundreds ). Founders of this nation have fewer monuments.

Do I look offended? I was making fun of y'all for being offended and crying about shite that isn't happening. iDGAF whether your Confederate Monuments stay or go, it just strikes me as humorous that you won't acknowledge the real reason they were put up, plus you make up gloom and doom stories about other monuments coming down, that aren't going to be removed bc they aren't to traitors.

Real question here: why did you stop signing everything "LC"? I always thought that odd.

On May 29, 1865, President Andrew Johnson issued a Proclamation of Amnesty and Pardon to persons who had participated in the rebellion against the United States. There were fourteen excepted classes, though, and members of those classes had to make special application to the President.

On October 2, 1865, the same day that Lee was inaugurated as president of Washington College in Lexington, Virginia, he signed his Amnesty Oath, thereby complying fully with the provision of Johnson's proclamation. But Lee was not pardoned, nor was his citizenship restored.

The only good thing Andrew Johnson did as president. frick Robert E. Lee.

No where in the WORLD, has the loser ever been honored with statues, like Confederate generals and soldiers are in USA.

You go to Poland, and there aren't statues of Hitler, or statues of German soldiers in their glory.

very odd

And what do you expect, statues of Sherman in Atlanta?

We lost the war, but the idea of the south remained. And we had to make sense of the immense sacrifice we made.

It's not strange.

I went to one of the City of Dallas building inspection offices earlier this week. They share a building with a Dallas PD station. Two police cruisers out front were sitting on bald tires.

Cops need tires but let's waste money on this meaningless shite.

for the kids, "fruit(s)" was a term to refer to homosexuals during the 1960s and early 1970s.

A number of people have made this point, and not to pick on anyone, and I agree it's true, but we surrender the debate when we make this point.

We concede that the statues should go when we say it's meaningless.
