RVing has set sales records since Covid as has attendance in national parks and campgrounds around the nation. I expect to see that industry collapse soon and there will extremely high rates of default on RV loans.

A 500 mile road trip @ 20 mpg would cost you $62.50 each way @ $2.50/gal and $100 each way @ $4.00/gal.....so $37.50 more each way. That isn't worth thinking about.

What about the other 20,000 miles a year that people drive? Do they magically get that gas at $2.50 or do those additional costs maybe factor in to whether someone takes a vacation?

I agree with your general point about gas prices effecting much more than just one trip for people but damn, how many of you are driving 25k miles a year? I think the average is around 10k.

So what about you? Have rising gas prices affect your every day life? What about your travel plans?
Naw, I’ve had a company vehicle since the mid ‘90s.

Travel over 5-6 hours for me by car means I’ll consider flying instead.

Of course commercial aviation will raise their prices due to inflation too.

The short answer is “no”, this inflation does not change my travel plans.

So because they drive a nice truck they’re supposed to not care about spending more money? That’s dumb.

To the OP I drive 160 miles a day to and from work so yeah i feel it. It’s not dealbreaker but damn it sucks spending $400 a month on gas

Anyone else remember all the HHO talk around 2008 when gas prices were through the roof? Wonder how that tech has come along since then?

Yes and it’s terrible. It’s the worst time in the world to do it but I’m considering a huge career change and financial risk to try and keep up. All these years of being comfortable I was just settling. Time to risk it

Travel is for the Ruling Class. How the hell can we Build Back Better if the middle class travels?

And I would remind everyone that back in 2008 it was just gas that was affected.

From an economic standpoint, that was the only issue in 2008…?

High enough gas prices can cause a recession on their own but coupled with general inflation I'd say it's almost a certainty if they go over $5 in the near future.

I am expecting higher than that as supply tries to catch up with demand.

That’s $75 that could be better used elsewhere. Let’s say you drive 1k a month, you’re looking at $900 a year gone down the drain just on fuel. For one vehicle. Not to mention all of the other costs that have increased tremendously. Biden is deceasing the middle class and making a larger poorer class. By design.

He definitely said 20k which is much closer to reality for the majority of vehicle owners than 10k is. Unless you work from home or walk to work, I don’t see how you don’t get at bare minimum a thousand miles a month driving. This of course excludes urban dwellers who more than likely don’t own a vehicle and probably never will own a vehicle.

Not bitching but I can personally tell you it will cost around 140 from BR to Orlando in a 250 diesel. Best advice I have is fill up in BR and then wait as far into FL as you can to fill back up. It was 4.28 in MS and 4.24 off I10 in FL. Prices went down a little as we went down I75. Wanted to fly but w/ Mardi Gras and when we left it wasn’t worth the hassle.

Jesus dude it was the housing market. Stock market ebbs and flows all the damn time. Anyone who panicked in 2008 that all their savings was gone picked a shite investor.
