I think it was just a month or two ago. He played one show and they cancelled the next night's show because he had to be hospitalized. I believe they cancelled several others after that, but I thought he was performing again.

Damn that sucks. Call me cheesy but I love the take it easy vibe of his music. Always perked me up if I was feeling down. Will be missed for sure.

Then when I turned around a few years later he was an entire industry unto himself. I still dont understand how that happened...
You had to be there.

His music was simple and terrible. But he did make a ton of a beach bum genre. So congrats.

Yeah he’s been pretty bad off for awhile so this isn’t totally unexpected

RIP to a hero and legend.
Zigg- You're a moron. I’m not sure where he did everything to lie about his money as you say. He’s talked numerous times about his hard work and business ventures allowing him to enjoy life and do what he wants. Just because a man is rich doesn’t mean he can’t still be simple.

So sad. Met him in Mobile on his birthday Dec 25,1977. Had a drink with him at the FloraBama (when it was a true dive bar) on a Sunday in the mid 80s. Always seemed to enjoy himself.

Quick check of his post history...Sorry bud, he's OT.
It's a strange thing that, for some of you, everyone who posts something you don't like is from the poli board.
Anyway, RIP Jimmy

frick. I kept telling myself next year to see him. Not what I wanted to wake up to on the first CFB Saturday. Dammit.

NYT posted that he passed.
RIP JB.
Grew up with his music. Some songs were great and some were awful.
NYT article said his Forbes estimate wealth is 1billion.....with a b

I read once that he had the most profitable NAME in entertainment.
frick the haters. Jimmy was a Time Machine for me in my late teens and early 20s and took me to a better place in my heart when I needed a friend BADLY.
He lived life like a modern savage, a pirate poet with a story and a pull on a bottle of rum for his friend in need. He loved Louisiana and New Orleans dearly. This one hurts RIP.

It wasn’t the vax. Undoubtedly it was one of the usual suspects. Age 76.

Dang, I hate this news. I think of him every time I can’t find the salt shaker…

Saw him at least a dozen times over many years and in many places. My favorite show was a day long concert at Tad Gormley Stadium on June 12, 1993. It also featured Evangeline, The Iguanas and Little Richard. The day started nicely enough, as it was the day that the Tigers won their second NC in baseball.
RIP, Jimmy and thanks for the great music and good times. Hopefully, you're in Paradise eating the biggest, best cheeseburger ever.
ETA: Jimmy was also a huge Saints fan. When he played Jazzfest months after the infamous "NOLA no call" against the Rams, Jimmy started his show dressed as a blind ref, being led out onstage by two Saints cheerleaders. LINK
