So they killed the bear?

I thought Jerry Stovall already did that 30 years ago.

Ask what he recalled from the incident, one survivor claim, "It's still a little Fozzy".

Why would they all run in separate directions? Seems like had they stayed together they probably couldve fended the bear off had it gotten someone down. Im no bear expert but I cant imagine it continuously wanting to attack if its being beaten by 5 ppl with braches and stuff. Seems it would just eventually say frick this and run off.

Am I the only one that thinks it would be so simple to outrun a bear?

Unless they're part cheetah, and assuming my life is in danger, in no way, shape or form is a bear going to catch me. I'm no Olympian and not fit by any means, but I would turn into Jackie Joyner Kersee in a heartbeat.

quote:

Fact: Bears can run more than 60 kilometers an hour, and they can do it up hills, down hills or along a slope. To put that in perspective, that's 15 m/sec or 50 ft/sec - more than twice as fast as we can run. In fact, a bear can outrun a racehorse over short distances but has little endurance.

No flippin' way

Some bears can get up to speeds in excess of 30mph on all fours, so, no.

Outrunning a bear isn't an easy feat.

True. But we're not talking wide open plains either. I'd be ducking around trees, jumping over water, whatever I'd have to do.

Bears are surprisingly fast. You have absolutely no chance to outrun a bear. And don't think you can just hop into a tree for safety, because they can scale the entire height of a tree in seconds.

I seent it IRL camping in the mountains.

camels can outrun horses at certain distances

(I saw a western where a guy went from town to town winning bets that way)
