I doubt this thread gets the love it should.
RIP. Love his version and Elvis’s version of Polk Salad Annie.

I think his fellow musicians always held Tony Joe in much higher regard than the general public.

That is a heartbreaker. Loved TJW. He had more soul in his little finger than most in their whole body. One of the few people Elvis covered that had a more soulful voice than the king. Amazing talent. May God bless him and his family.

Doubt people will realize the impact he had on music, much less the sheer talent this guy had. Check out his first two solo albums from the late 60s. TJW was way ahead of his time.
He was one of the last true musicians, and from Oak Grove, no less.

I just listened to some of his stuff on YouTube. Not a fan. Not much different than Bro Country.

Many musicians would gather at his home for some legendary parties that would last days.

Elvis, the panty dropper. Damn. I would love to know what that note said that he read on stage but I think I have a good idea.
RIP Tony Joe. Legend

I always found his union with Richard and Karen Carpenter to be rather odd.
But most don't know she was a notable percussionist and drummer so...
