Similar case with john deer zero turn. I just went and purchased a $50 charger and just keep the battery charged. Sunshine equipment couldn't figure out the problem two years ago and said I just needed a new battery. Wrong.

Good chance the valves need adjusting.

If it's a Briggs engine, I would check this before spending money swapping starter, solenoid, etc. if you don't know how, google it, very easy.

Are Cradtsman lawn tractors decent quality?

They are all made by somebody else. For years the smaller and medium sized ones were made by Murray. The larger ones have been made by Husqvarna.

To the OP: What model number, Horsepower and engine type? It may be corrosion on the magneto contacts.

Try jumping it to get it running, then while running pull the positive battery post. If it dies it is not charging.

It's a bad or corroded connection between the battery and cables. Take them off and clean and score the lead and put back on.

I have a starting problem too. And I have a battery charger on a brand new battery.

I just hear a spinning sound when I turn the key.

On a serious note, sounds like you need new aluminum heads and some lifters

Had a similar problem. Couldn't figure it out. Sent for repair and it was a $2 fuse!

How long have you had the mower?

If it's new and had a charging system you may not be running it long enough to charge it. How much are you cutting?

You'd have to check voltages and see if your battery is dead and then mocve from there.something might be bleeding voltage.

Our old came craftsman mower had a bad light switch. Bulbs been out but the switch corroded and drew power all the time. Just cut and taped the wires off the switch.
