That is horrible. We are talking about elementary school kids. They have no control over cafeteria payments. I undestand that schools need money for their meal programs, but you don't shame kids. Here in Seattle there are regular drives to raise money for school kids to pay off their cafeteria bills and I am happy to contribute. Kids deserve better.

Thanks a lot. Not only do I get to pay for someone else’s kid’s school, now I get to pay for their lunch....

If you go the property tax route, you can easily add an exemption for people who don’t have kids.

Lots of solutions here for people who are actually interested in solving the “problem”.

Elementary school parents. Kids aren't missing anything worth a damn, it's the parents that will be pissed.

I sorta agree, don't take it out on the kids, go after the parents

The kids are the ones eating the lunch. They need to be taught self responsibility sooner or later.

I have kids, pay property taxes for our shitty schools and pay private school tuition. No way I'm voting to pay more

Fine. So exempt everyone who doesn’t have a kid in the public school system.

Or issue tickets/citations.

Or retain a collections agency.

Like I said, lots of ways to solution this other than doing crappy things to kids.

You know if there weren’t private schools around public schools would be better.

But then people like you would have to let their kids be around black people. And we all know you racist frickers aren’t going to do that.

Irrelevant. Who’s responsible for paying for that lunch?

Yep. These aren't poor families, those kids eat on the taxpayers dime

if the kids are the ones eating, they should be responsible.

They need to learn how to pawn their Nintendo DS’s if they are that hungry.

A lot of schools have special weeks, and you can dress up but you have to pay to dress up ($2 day)
Poor kids can't I guess, I never asked.

Yeah “PTA money grabs” disguised as school spirit days are almost as bad as this crap.

Parents.

About time we started paying people to get fixed. It'll be cheaper in the long run.

No, because a good public school system is is everyone's best interest. I am no fan of private schools, but parents should have the option of educating their kids as they see fit. Just don't reduce public school funding.

It's becoming a waste of resources. In 30 years we will not need schools.
