'Revenge for our dead' - Russians are writing messages on their bombs

I like it. The last country on earth that you think would be at the forefront of fighting for western civilization.

The BBC's Steve Rosenberg in Moscow says that in the Russian defence ministry video soldiers can be seen writing messages on the bombs before loading them onto the aircraft - phrases like: "This is revenge for our dead" and "This is for Paris".
iRussia says its intensified its air raids on what it calls "terrorist" targets in Syria and raised to 69 the number of its aircraft there.
But President Vladimir Putin said the current level of attacks was not enough to defeat so-called Islamic State (IS).
Russia said it fired cruise missiles for a fourth day against IS targets. The long-range missiles were launched from Caspian Sea warships.
Col Patrick Ryder, a spokesman for US Central Command, said the Russian air strikes in recent days targeted more IS areas, including the group's oil infrastructure.
In four days of heavy bombing against IS, the ministry said, more than 100 cruise missiles were launched and more than 800 "terrorist" targets destroyed in Syria.
Mr Putin said Russia still faced a lot of work. He expressed hope that the next phases would "produce the expected result", but did not clarify what those phases would be.

One of my employees lives in Beirut. He was scheduled to fly here today. When he arrived at the airport they told him no flights out until Monday because Russia has control of the airspace. I think they're going in deep this weekend.

they're not doing this at all
they're primarily focusing on rebel groups (that we support) who are in opposition to Assad. ISIS is secondary
their support of Assad is directly against western civilizations and is a power play for Russian/eastern interests

Wrong. Assad while an authoritarian leader is the best choice in Syria. Unless you want Isis to run Syria. But hey these wise guys in Washington had Mubarak removed and got stuck with the Muslim brotherhood.

Well, wouldn't be the first time we find ourselves fighting a common enemy with Russia. War, like politics makes strange bedfellows sometimes.
Now whether we could agree with them on some type of negotiated desired outcome between us, Russia and other countries is a whole different question.

Actually for all of the world. He provides stability in that part of the world. Are you one of those people that believes they will have free and fair elections one day and be a European-style democracy?

no. where did i say that?
we have our own authoritarian leader/group that isn't Assad and isn't ISIS that we want to install in order to weaken Russian interests
Russia has its puppet leader (Assad) that it wants to remain in power to weaken Western/US interests
ISIS is a secondary villain

Dude. Look at Assad and his dad and their control of the country, military, business, tribal leaders etc. removing Assad will create a vacuum and he is the classic case of the devil you know. Is gassing his people wrong? Of course it's horrid. But he's a secular ruler and that's all that counts. These people value life differently.

i don't see Assad supporters or the primary rebel groups of the civil war doing so, either. that was ISIS, who is a 3rd actor in Syria
*ETA: there is also a 4th major group, the Kurds, who are fighting, essentially, for their own independence (and whom Turkey is bombing)

arguing "Assad v. ISIS" has no bearing on my commentary about Russian and American interests
to go back to my original comments. Russia is not fighting for the West. they are fighting for Russia and its eastern imperial interests

The Kurds are a totally different argument. They will never be independent and we have pissed off turkey but helping them. An see need turkey much more than those gypsies. We need that air space "but Obama don't care".

In this specific instance those interests are more in line with western values than our current president's. Having a stable, strong and secular ruler is much better for all of us. Our president has no plan.
