In LP, gas stations are racist for making white men wear shoes and shirts...

This is bar business 101.
White boys spend money to impress white girls.
If white girls arent there, because they feel uncomfortable, dont like the music, dont like the atmosphere, WHATEVER reason, then there will be no white boys there spending their money.

No white girls = no white boys
No white boys = no money
No money = bar closes

Welcome to typical non urban bar economics 101.

Exxxxactly.

There’s a reason there are ladies nights and not “Men’s Nights”.

When I was in college, I went where the hot chicks were. And when there, I bought those hot white chicks drinks and shots and drank a lot myself.

If you lose the “hot white chick” clientele, you’re fricking doomed unless you’re a bar that caters to a largely black demo. And if you’re a largely black demo bar, you still have to attract all the hot black chicks unless of course you’re a gay bar, which brings us back to square one because all the hot white chicks love gay bars

Only a select group of people have to worry about being denied from a Tigerland bar because of their attire. The dress code for the bars in Tigerland screams “no trash allowed.”

Exactly. The white wannabe chinstrap guido looking crowd is excluded as well. And you better believe they won't let a white boy in gym shorts and a tank top in.

Yep.

(ironic sign considering this is a guido bar in Nola )

They aren't denied for their race. They are denied for their attire.

Now whether those dress code restrictions are mainly to restrict a certain demographic who wears those clothes, is something that isn't really debatable. But they can wear different clothes and get in.

Is the dress code enforcement consistent irrespective of race? I hope so, doubt it. As we saw in the recent Gaslamp bar story out of Houston, the bouncers usually have their own agenda for keeping certain types of people out.

Yes, I provided a first hand experience a couple posts into the thread, and others have as well. Take your race baiting elsewhere, like back to the Reveille.

Edit: whether or not it's some kind of major injustice is another matter. Bars have to maintain a certain demographic in order to be successful. I'm sure they don't solely discriminate against blacks, although that would be the most common. You can't have a college bar full of 50 year old men either, and I'm sure they would face similar obstacles if they became more common frequenters.

These conversations are interesting because they rarely look at it from an ownership perspective. In Atlanta, where we have a) a lot of black people and b) plenty of black people who want to spend money, it becomes especially interesting.

Bars/restaurants open, and while you can make some front end choices to attract a certain crowd (black Atlantans will flock to our trendiest establishments, white hipsters to our more subtle and minimalist locations), you often don't know what kind of place you're going to become. If your crowd becomes 80% anything, the other demographics won't come. So it just builds on itself. I won't get into what it may mean (negative or positive) for your establishment to become segregated to one race, but I do think it puts ownership in an awkward spot of sometimes running a place for one segment of the city on accident.

How badly do you want this to be racist?

"If this dress code isn't racist, it MUST be the bouncers!11!!?"!

There is no proof you could provide to some people. They will see racism or sexism in anything.

None of the bars care. As long as their cash cow is happy (wealthy drunk frat kids and the wanna-bes) they couldnt give a shite about discriminatory dress code. ITS A PRIVATE BUSINESS! THEY CAN DENY WHOEVER THEY WANT!!

She's well on her way to bitching about race for a living for the rest of her life. Kudos to her for getting an early start.

first hand examples have been given of it being enforced across different races.
white boy with backwards hat = no entry.

the ironic thing is that this is only a "race" issue in predominantly white areas. go to an upscale black club wearing some of that shite and youll get turned away too unless you are famous. I dont see anyone crying racism then
