Anybody know any good schools that have restaurant management degrees. I have decided that I want to be a chef and try to figure out how to open my own restaurant and manage it correctly as well as pick up some better cooking skills.

J & W's program for restaurant managment is in Providence RI, which is a shithole. They have a bunch of other programs in Miami and Denver and I think CA.
What does your buddy do now, and more importantly, does he like it?

Having a good friend that does this, the best way to learn the restaurant business is to be in it. Start low and work your way up so you know every aspect of the kitchen from line cook to head chef. Along the way you also learn all you could ever need to know about good and bad management, because you'll probably go through more than a few restaurants.

You can go to Nichols and learn from John Folse. Or you could go to Ole Miss and major in hospitality services (or something like that). I'd go to Nichols that way you wouldn't have to go to oxford.

you can actually get a decent degree in Hotel and Restaurant management.
most schools offer something. The University of Memphis State has a decent program.
btw-- you know you will never have weekends off, will become and alcoholic, get divorced and die alone?

and manage it correctly
The only thing you need to know is if a customer complains about horrible service AFTER their meal, tell them to go frick themselves and never return to your restaurant again

I already work in the restaurant business part time and did so throughout college. Now, I have a job I hate. I am a good cook and like to cook so I figured that since I have found out I hate my job, I want to do something I actually enjoy. I know the stresses and problems with restaurants but I kinda like it. It keeps me on my toes.

It's called the Louisiana Culinary Institute.

Oxford sucks, but Thibodaux isn't exactly a resort town.

doesn't ULL have a hospitality management program or something along those lines ?? maybe supa, rouge, kracka, etc. -- posters that are from that area -- could shed some light ..

Does LSU have a program like this at all, or some sort of hospitality program?

Rebel you are almost 100% correct. I don't drink but I am looking forward to dying alone. then I'll get some rest.

Wow, pretty much nailed it.
I have been managing for years now, I think you should save some money and just get a job in the business and learn it on the fly.

I have a job in business and I hate it. I like the crazieness of restaurants and the a-hole customers. I really like to cook and can deal well with people. Plus, I already don't have weekends off and I like to drink so it sounds good to me.
