FWIW, I respect your dedication to standing your ground. I also see you have proved you are real and not a troll. However, your threads suck.

The honest truth is this is an LSU forum and therefore, no one here cares about Southern. It's a low performing school that costs the state a lot of money, and may not exist if it wasn't an HBC. I think the funding that goes to Southern would be better spent supplementing the budget of a higher performing university like LSU or providing need based scholarships to the successful students at Southern to go to a better school. You should either be a successful university or a successful community college, but being a poor performing university in a state that is losing higher education money every year should result in having your school closed

Actually I think that would be a great solution to some of our problems. Southern operates at a deficit I'm sure. So close southern, and allow automatic admission to LSU if they fit the requirements, and BRCC if they do not. The ones the fit the bill for LSU should be provided need based scholarships based on the operating budget of southern. Then, over 4 years, continue to offer the southern budget as need based scholarships to students, and phase it out at the end of 4 years, at which time it could be either added to the budget of LSU or split between all other state institutions

All universities can not be LSU, Tulane, or Tech. The smaller schools provide needed education opportunities to those who either don't meet admissions standards or can not handle the learning environment of the upper tier.

Upper tier isn't even everything it's cracked up to be. I know plenty of smart people who graduated in engineering at Tech and got good jobs but who took certain engineering classes at other schools simply due to learning curve.

ALOT of people are led astray thinking they absolutely can't do something, when in reality it is a factor of their learning environment and they may possibly need to change it. I'm not saying natural ability isn't important, but when people can pass upper level courses in thier majors (most of which contain HARDER concepts) but supposedly struggle with basics, an alternative never hurts.

Besides, HBCU would not exist if earlier founders of said universities and the state did not have racist policies. From a moral standpoint, this is simply karma.

However in all fairness I do see that SU needs to perform better in order to make others believe in its purpose. I have seen a lot of improvement in myself by being at SU. I feel that I have and can accomplish things that would be more obstinate at Tech.

No. And why the ludicrous question.

First, there are other schools in LA besides LSU, Tulane and tech that are still performing at acceptable rates. However, southern is at or near the bottom. I think another poster said a 15% 6 year grad rate. That's abysmal. And 15% of southern's student population could easily be absorbed by a larger institution.

And upper tier and rankings are significantly affected by graduation rates. If one school graduates 65% and one school has 15%, clearly one is doing something right, and one is not. A school that supports it's students and promotes their efforts will have better graduation rates, and thus be "higher tier". They're not necessarily any harder, but they're more likely to graduate a successful student with all the skills necessary to move into the job market in their field.

I can agree with some environments not meshing with students, but those students should be moving on to another successful university, not a failing one. And I'll throw this out there - passing is not necessarily equal to succeeding at a school.

The karma thing I don't agree with. The higher ed deficit hurts everyone, not just the schools that were formally all-white, if that's what you're getting at. The budget for every school is being reduced, so every school is suffering. I argue that the weakest schools should be cut off here, this is a sign that our state has too many schools and needs to reduce them to a more appropriate number.

And a last note, I'm impressed that you're doing well at Southern. Clearly it's not an easy environment to learn in, based off the statistics surrounding it. And I have no doubts that you are smart and talented because you seem to be that based off your posts and what little I know of you. However, I think students like you deserve to be in an environment that gives you back what you pay for, that surrounds you with other students that are meant to be in higher ed, and that does it's best to ensure your success. I don't think Southern is doing that though
