I get what you are saying, but that has to go both ways. There are expectations and duties of the company to make sure the safety of their employees is the priority as well. You can’t treat someone like an expendable piece of garbage and then expect them to put it all on the line to protect your assets.

Third party/service employees are not trained/responsible for maintaining/repairing/running the vessel.

Latest I got from my contact is they were fishing for a tool until Friday afternoon late. They weren’t even drilling. There’s completion fluid from the floor to the riser.

Yea hints why I said core crew. All service hand should have been long gone.

I agree, I am not sure what the deal is with not being able to get birds. PHI is basically kept afloat by Shell.

Why are they not wearing life jackets in the video?

Can someone please translate
Into layman’s terms? I don’t quite understand why they can’t head to shore.

we cannot move the rig closer to shore until we operate our equipment out here and pick up the riser joint that is hanging

Basically they have a 1000’+ piece of solid metal hanging below the ship (I have no idea the water depth). Think about the force it takes to move your arm under water versus the force it takes to move your arm in the air. Now sit on the side of the pool and move your arm trough the water- the resistance of the water pulls your hand and fingers back. Same thing here and the faster they move, the higher the drag and the more torque on the riser. More torque increases the likelihood of something breaking.
All that said, I would have to know what operation they were performing while the storm was coming up on them. When I was in this business- by regulation we had to have a storm packer on location that we could set and test for all the ID’s (internal diameter) of our casing strings. Picking up and setting a storm packer should be something that crews train on.
Now, that said, from the reports and TD posts I see, I’m having a hard time figuring out what exactly what was happening on this rig.
Back when I did this … I would have happily told my bosses, their bosses, and every shareholder that I disconnected, dropped the riser, and moved off location as to not even have the remote chance that could cause a wife to loose her husband and his children to loose their father. To hell with that.

I'm reading conflicting updates .. one says that everyone was rescued yesterday and someone replied that there are still a couple of flights that will be today. This is on our parish FB page .. there are some people on that page with friends and family on the boat.
Looking for definite confirmation.
Someone posted that they were praying for their guys on the boat a day or so ago ... I just asked if they were rescued .. YES was the reply.

Id be interested to know how much riser they had to pull, they can roll with it especially on open derrick like that rig has.
Also they should have just dropped it and took the fine.

I’m in the dark on this one (jurisdiction), but the rant never lets me down on info. One stop shop for real time scoop from sauces.

This is what I don’t understand? Why didn’t this happen?
If they could do 10-15 knots without it they only needed 5-10 hours to get the hell out of dodge. They should have had a hard deadline at least that amount of time before the storm got there.
I mean RDS started the storm thread over a week out. They need some new meteorologists if they didn’t have a firm timeline for this.
