One commentator on CNN just mentioned Al Quaida. then I thought I heard the other say that the police had identified the subject.

I just used Google and posted the first .223 rifle I found but my point stands.
There are semi-auto .22s that look MAC-10s but obviously they won't do any more damage than a regular .22 but don't tell that to morons that don't know any better.

They are trying to tell you that the picture you posted is of a crack barrel .223. Yes we know there are more than one type of gun. They are just pointing out that you used the worst possible picture to prove a point with

Pretty sure that model is a break action single shot... but unlike some others here I get your point.
There are tons of high(er) capacity rifles that shoot .223 exactly like the scary looking machine-gun-assault-rifle AR15

Yeah you do. Because it's a popular cartridge used in scary-looking military style rifles. And scary looking rifles have more PR weight than less scary firearms which nonetheless kill TONS more people.
