Yep.
Just pay the debt. I wonder what the dollar value of worrying about if student loan debt will be forgiven for 4 years straight is.
I borrowed the money, I'll pay. If they get forgiven, cool. If not, cool.
My friend got out of his master's program 3-4 years ago and probably a third of every time we talk on the phone he mentions his student loan debt and how he read some article about how they are about to be forgiven and that he hopes so because he is stressed about it.
Just pay the debt and stop worrying.

I do lol at the people who haven't paid a single loan while it has been in deferment tho.
Why are you laughing? It’s the correct move.
Even with the current meltdown in the market I am way ahead of where I would be if I paid down the loans instead of investing. I haven’t paid a dime towards student loans since the pause began and I won’t pay a dime until the pause ends.

I suppose it makes sense because your loans are so much...but why would anyone with a lower amount pay it off when there's even the possibility of forgiveness?
Might as well invest more money in the meantime and wait to see what happens. They are certainly not incentivized to pay down the student loan.

House - paid off
Truck - paid off
Student loans - none - I worked through college
taxes - sky high
how is this fair to people that live responsibly?

The people on IBR/PAYE/REPAYE and PSLF have no reason to pay either because these months of non-payment are counting towards forgiveness in all of those programs.
At this point 2 years towards 10 years in PSLF, 20% of the time, hasn't required payment. Making payments is a dumb move.

Yeah they'll cap it based on income so that people who took out large loans and then actually used their education to be productive in society don't get rewarded. This country is a clown car

Dozens of progressive Democrats have called on Biden to cancel up to $50,000 per borrower.
Can we do that with mortgages and car payments, and other things people are buying and agreeing to?

I think the main gripe is not with those who are looking at it from a perspective of "what makes the most financial sense?". I think the aggravation comes from those who are stressed about it and feel entitled to forgiveness based on nothing more than their feeling that they've been ripped off.

We only have a small piece of one loan left, and we did the same. TBH it goes against my nature (I'd like to just get it done with), but the government never gives us anything so we're taking it almost in protest

The left wing doesn't give a damn about that. They want free shite and they don't give a rip about who gets taken advantage of and ripped off in the process

You filthy responsible debt and taxpayers need to be punished.
This type of thing is sheer lunacy by the left.

Can I get back the $250k in mortgage payments I made over the last 15 years while still paying my taxes? While we're at it, can I get those taxes back too?

I googled it and apparently Navient stopped serving student loans. Whoever they passed mine off to didn’t care to contact me while they’re frozen though.
Try looking into AidVantage and see if they have them. That was where some of my loans were moved to.

Why would I pay money on a zero interest debt when inflation is on a moonshot? Would it not be better to pay that money on higher interest debt?
Or save what you would have made for each payment to the side. Then, if it gets forgiven, you get a bonus, or if/when it resumes, make a massive payment so you don't lose out on the interest free portion.

Wouldn't it show up on your credit report who you owe the money to?

I never got a pause on my loans, because they aren't owned by the fed gov. But my interest rate is 1.25% so whatever.
My wife (no pics) now qualifies for the public forgiveness as a teacher, so she's applied for that. Her loans have been paused this whole time.
We've been saving the $300/month she was paying.
I don't think they should be forgiven. But if they are, might as well take advantage of it.

Before my dad passed a few years ago, he told me the damned Democrats would probably pay off the rest of my student loans.
I've paid a good portion, but I'm not gonna bitch if they decide to forgive the rest. Lets be honest, most of you wouldn't bitch if you still owed something.
I do agree that its unfair to those to scrimped for years and paid theirs off the hard way.
